The Auto Grid Review
Tata Sierra.ev Review: Our Verdict
The Sierra.ev started arriving at Kondapur in August, almost all Empowered or Empowered A cars, and the owners are more protective of them than of any other Tata we see — they ask for full body before we suggest it. Bodywork is the ICE Sierra’s, so the same three concerns apply: the flat bonnet, the flush handles and the piano-black pillar tape. Two EV-specific points. First, the car weighs well over two tonnes, so the lower doors and sills take more sand-blasting from the rear tyres than the petrol car, and the 19-inch wheels on Empowered A kerb badly. Second, the sealed EV nose panel is one large painted surface with no grille to hide chips — a stone that would have vanished into a petrol car’s grille leaves a mark here. Paint quality is the same hard TMGA-era clear coat as the ICE Sierra, which is to say the best Tata currently offers, and the Nainital Nocturne shade is genuinely deep.
What we like
- +Longest certified range of any Tata — up to 665 km MIDC
- +Hard, even paint on the new platform
- +Lifetime HV battery warranty for the first private owner
- +QWD dual-motor with 504 Nm for those who want it
What we’d change
- –Heavy — lower doors and sills sand-blast
- –Exposed closed nose panel shows chips
- –Pure 63 had 12–15-week waits in August
- –19-inch wheels kerb easily
Is the Sierra.ev right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Silent, one-pedal-friendly regen and 205 mm clearance make it an effortless city car; it is wide for old-city lanes.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
665 km certified on the 75 kWh, Level 2+ ADAS with lane centring and the Ultra Glide suspension — this is the Tata for Bengaluru and Vijayawada runs.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, 622 L boot, reclining rear seat and a cabin purifier; the ICE Sierra’s 5-star BNCAP structure underpins it, though the EV has not been separately rated.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The QWD with Boost mode does 0–100 in 5.8 s; it is the quickest-accelerating Tata on sale and the multilink rear keeps it composed.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Starting near nineteen lakh and needing a 7.2 kW home charger, it is a big first purchase.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Quiet, Boss mode, rear USB-C and the air purifier make the back seat excellent; rear recline helps on long drives.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Six terrain modes and off-road assist on the QWD, 205 mm clearance and V2L for a campsite; range anxiety is low with the 75 kWh.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Tata Sierra.ev: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Flat bonnet and the sealed EV nose panel chip first; flush handles and piano-black pillar tape scuff; the heavy kerb weight sand-blasts lower doors and sills; 19-inch wheel-arch lips kerb.
Our recommendation
AG1 Square full body for Empowered and Empowered A cars, with sill and lower-door coverage as standard; AG1 full front plus sills as the minimum for Pure and Adventure.
Coverage
Full body recommended; full front with sills, handle cups and pillar tape as the minimum.
