The Auto Grid Review
Hyundai Bayon Review: Our Verdict
The Bayon only launched on 26 October 2026, so the first cars are still at dealerships and we have filmed none yet; this is a specification read, not a bay verdict, and we will rewrite it once the first Kondapur customers come in. On paper it is a Creta-platform car with a smaller footprint, the same 115 PS petrol, a 505-litre boot that beats the Creta and a far more complete ADAS suite on HX10. What matters for protection is what we can already see on the display cars: the geometric wheel-arch cladding is unpainted black plastic, which is good news for stone chips on the arches, but the sharp H-edge DRL housings sit right at the bumper corners where Hyderabad bumpers get kissed. Two of the ten colours are matte, and the dual-tone cars have a painted black roof that will show swirls quickly.
What we like
- +Level 2 Pro ADAS with 23 functions and radar-based blind-spot assist on HX10
- +Biggest boot in the segment at 505 litres
- +Six airbags, ESC and TPMS standard from HX2
- +Priced below the equivalent Creta trim
What we’d change
- –Single 115 PS petrol; no diesel, turbo or CNG at launch
- –No Bharat NCAP result yet
- –Full tech suite is locked to HX10
- –Too new for real-world ownership data
Is the Bayon right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The IVT with Dash Boost mode and a 5.16 m turning radius suit Gachibowli traffic, and the surround camera on HX8 and above helps in basement car parks.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Highway Driving Assist and navigation-based cruise on the HX10 IVT are segment firsts; the 115 PS engine is adequate rather than quick for overtaking on the NH65.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A 505-litre boot, flat floor, ISOFIX and six airbags make it a sensible family car; the crash rating is still pending with Bharat NCAP.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The naturally aspirated 1.5 and CVT are built for smoothness; the Creta N Line or Venue N Line are the Hyundais for keen drivers.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
HX2 and HX3 are well-equipped entry points with all the core safety kit, a known engine and Hyundai's service network behind them.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear legroom and the two-step recline are good for the size, but the Creta and Alcazar offer more rear-seat kit and presence.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
205 mm of ground clearance and cladded arches are useful on broken Telangana state roads, but it is front-wheel drive on road tyres.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Hyundai Bayon: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Bumper corners around the H-edge DRL housings, the bonnet leading edge and the lower front bumper will take the first chips; the painted black roof on dual-tone cars and the two matte colours mark easily. The plastic wheel-arch cladding protects the arches themselves.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front plus the painted roof panel on dual-tone cars; AG1 Square full body on Titanium Black Matte and Classy Blue Matte with a matte-finish film, applied in week one before dealer polish can touch the matte surface.
Coverage
Full front standard; add the roof on dual-tone cars, lower doors for highway use and full body for matte colours.
