The Auto Grid Review

Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus Review: Our Verdict

3.3/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

We see the Neo Plus mostly as a white P10 bought by a school, a resort or a large joint family, and the request is always the same: keep the front end and the sills looking new because the vehicle is on the road every day. The paint is the same utilitarian finish as the Bolero Neo, thick enough but with a coarse texture, and the extra 400 mm of body at the back means the long rear doors and the quarter panels catch more road spray and more passenger scuffs than the short car. The long flat flanks make it an easy film job, and the footsteps on both sides take the worst of the shoe scratches, which we cannot do much about. Diamond White dominates; Napoli Black cars show the swirl marks from daily washing within weeks.

What we like

  • +Nine seats, a 2.2 diesel with 280 Nm and a 60-litre tank for genuine people-moving
  • +Ladder frame and coil-spring rear that cope with rural roads
  • +Six-speed manual is a step up from the five-speed Bolero
  • +ISOFIX and a touchscreen on the P10

What we’d change

  • –Dual airbags, no ESC and no crash-test rating
  • –Side-facing third row with lap belts for the middle occupant
  • –Three colours and no automatic
  • –Basic cabin for the money against monocoque MPVs

Is the Bolero Neo Plus right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

At 4.4 metres with hydraulic steering and a manual-only 2.2 diesel, it is a people-mover for the outskirts, not a city commuter.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

120 PS and 280 Nm pull nine people up the ghats without strain, but the body-on-frame ride and noise mean it is a workhorse rather than a cruiser.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

The seat count is unmatched under this money, but two airbags, no ESC, side-facing rear seats and no safety rating are the trade-offs.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

A nine-seat utility body with soft springs and slow steering offers nothing to a driving enthusiast.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

Too long, too specialised and too fleet-oriented to make sense as a first personal car.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

Bench seats, no rear AC vents and a working-vehicle ride make it a staff carrier, not an executive car.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

Rear-wheel drive and tough suspension carry a whole group and their luggage to a farmhouse on bad roads; just do not expect 4x4 ability.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

Front bumper and bonnet face chip on daily highway runs; the long rear doors, quarter panels and sills take road spray and passenger scuffs, and Napoli Black shows wash swirls within weeks.

Our recommendation

AG1 full-front plus sill and lower-door strips is the fleet-sensible package; black cars used daily benefit from a full flank treatment because the long body gathers more scratches per month than the short Neo.

Coverage

Front end and sills standard; lower doors and quarter panels for fleet or dark-colour vehicles.
