The Auto Grid Review
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Review: Our Verdict
Ertigas reach Kondapur in two kinds: family cars, usually ZXi+ ATs in Auburn Red or Oxford Blue, and fleet CNGs in Arctic White. The family cars come early and clean; the fleet cars come after a year with the sliding-door-free but still tall, flat body sides scraped along gate posts and the rear bumper corners ground off in airport stacks. The paint is standard Arena metallic — fine, not deep — and the long, flat bonnet and chrome winged grille catch ORR stones at the leading edge. The lower doors sand-blast behind the front wheels because there is no cladding at all. The tailgate edge and the rear bumper top show luggage marks on every Ertiga we see. It is an easy car to film: flat doors, a simple bonnet and small lamps; a full-front plus door-edge and tailgate-edge package covers most of what a family will damage.
What we like
- +Seven real seats with a flat-fold third row and roof AC
- +Six airbags, ESP and hill descent on every variant
- +26.1 km/kg CNG option
- +Simple panels that protect easily
What we’d change
- –No cladding — lower doors sand-blast
- –Halogen headlamps and a 17.78 cm screen feel dated
- –Boot is small with all seven seats up
Is the Ertiga right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 6-speed AT is smooth and visibility is good, but it is a long car for Ameerpet lanes and the fuel economy is MPV-level in traffic.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Settled at 100 km/h with cruise control on the ZXi+, a 45 L tank and a quiet cabin for seven; the K15C is relaxed rather than quick.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, ISOFIX, roof AC vents for all three rows and a flat-folding third row — the family MPV of the Maruti range.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Soft, tall and built to carry seven; the Ertiga has nothing for anyone who cares how a car steers or stops.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Easy to drive and cheap to run for its size, with strong resale, but a long first car to park.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The second row is comfortable with its own vents; refinement is adequate rather than plush, and the XL6 does the chauffeured job better.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Takes seven and luggage to a hill station on tarmac; clearance is fine for broken roads but it is front-wheel drive on road tyres.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Bonnet leading edge and chrome grille chip; uncladded lower doors sand-blast; tailgate edge, rear bumper top and corners scuff on luggage and tight parking.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with lower-door strips and a tailgate-edge strip is our standard Ertiga package; fleet owners add rear bumper corners.
Coverage
Full front standard; add lower doors, tailgate edge and rear bumper corners for family and fleet use.
