The Auto Grid Review
Maruti Suzuki Invicto Review: Our Verdict
Invictos are rare in Kondapur but they always arrive the same way: an Alpha Plus in Magnificent Black or Stellar Bronze, chauffeur-driven, with the owner wanting the whole car done because it is the family’s highway car. It is a Toyota underneath and it shows — the paint is thick and even, the gaps are tight, and dealer swirls are rare. The nose is huge: a tall NEXWave grille with a chrome cross bar, big twin-LED headlamps and a wide bumper that catches everything the Vijayawada highway throws at it; the bonnet leading edge chips next. The long doors show car-park dings in dark colours, the roof rails and the powered-tailgate edge mark under luggage, and the panoramic glass surround rubs under covers. The panels are big and flat, so an AG1 Square full-body install is straightforward; the grille cross bar is the only awkward piece.
What we like
- +Toyota strong hybrid: 22.16 km/l from a 4.75 m MPV
- +Bharat NCAP 30.43/32 adult with six airbags standard
- +Panoramic roof, powered tailgate, captain seats
- +Thick, even paint that films beautifully
What we’d change
- –Most expensive Maruti; the Hycross offers more trims
- –Only three variants and no ADAS
- –Dark colours show car-park dings on the long doors
Is the Invicto right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Silent EV-mode creep and the 360° camera help, but a 4.75 m MPV is a lot of car for Ameerpet lanes and apartment ramps.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The 2.0 hybrid, cruise control, a long wheelbase and a hushed cabin make it the most relaxed Maruti for a Bengaluru or Vijayawada run.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, a strong Bharat NCAP score, ISOFIX, three usable rows and a powered tailgate — a family road-trip car without compromise.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
A big, soft hybrid MPV; the e-CVT drone under load is the only thing a keen driver will notice.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Far too large, heavy and expensive for a first car; a new driver will struggle to park a 4.75 m MPV and pay dearly to insure it.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Captain seats, a flat ride, rear vents and near-silent hybrid running make it the best chauffeured car in the Maruti range by a distance.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Will carry seven and luggage up a tarmac ghat in comfort; clearance is fair but it is front-wheel drive on road tyres.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Maruti Suzuki Invicto: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Tall NEXWave grille, chrome cross bar, headlamp faces and the wide front bumper chip first; bonnet leading edge second; long doors ding in car parks; tailgate edge and panoramic-roof surround mark under luggage and covers.
Our recommendation
AG1 Square full body is what most Invicto owners choose because it is the family highway car and the paint is worth keeping; AG1 full-front with headlamp film and door-edge guards as the minimum.
Coverage
Full body preferred; at minimum full front, headlamps, door edges and tailgate edge.
