The Auto Grid Review

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Review: Our Verdict

3.5/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

The Celerio is a quiet seller in Hyderabad and the ones that reach our Kondapur bay are mostly ZXi+ AGS cars in Caffeine Brown or Speedy Blue bought as a second city car. The rounded body hides panel gaps well, but the clear coat is thin: the bonnet nose and the lower front bumper show pepper chips after a monsoon of Hitec City commuting, and the rear bumper corners take the worst of tight apartment parking. Dealer-applied polish often leaves fine swirls on the darker metallics that only show under our lamps. It is an easy car to protect: the bonnet is one soft curve, the bumper has few creases, and the headlamps are small, so a full-front package goes down cleanly in a morning.

What we like

  • +26 km/l AGS automatic and a 34.4 km/kg CNG
  • +Six airbags and ESP listed across the range
  • +Compact outside, roomier inside than the Alto K10
  • +Rounded panels film cleanly

What we’d change

  • –Thin clear coat chips and swirls easily
  • –Touchscreen only on the top ZXi+ trims
  • –No boot figure published by Maruti

Is the Celerio right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

The AGS, a small footprint and 26 km/l claimed economy make it the most sensible Maruti for a 20 km Madhapur round trip; visibility is excellent.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

It will sit at 100 km/h on the ORR but the 998 cc engine is loud there and there is no cruise control; short hops only.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

Six airbags, ISOFIX-free but 3-point belts for all rear seats, and a usable rear bench for two adults and a child.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

Light, soft and economy-tuned; the Celerio has no interest in corners and neither will an enthusiast in it.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

Cheap to run, easy to park, resale is strong and the AGS removes the clutch from a new driver’s worries.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

Rear knee room is fine for a hatch but nothing about refinement or rear comfort suits a chauffeured owner.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

Fine for a tarmac ghat run with two aboard; clearance and tyres are not for tracks.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Maruti Suzuki Celerio: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

Bonnet nose and lower front bumper pepper-chip first; rear bumper corners collect parking scuffs; darker metallics show dealer-polish swirls.

Our recommendation

AG1 full-front after a light correction of the delivery swirls; AG1 Square full body only on the dark metallic ZXi+ cars whose owners want the finish kept.

Coverage

Full front standard; add rear bumper corners for apartment parking.
