The Auto Grid Review
Tata Tiago Review: Our Verdict
Tiagos reach Kondapur as second cars and first cars, mostly Pure+ and Creative AMTs, and the CNG share has climbed sharply this year. The paint is honest entry-level Tata: thin on the roof and bonnet, decent on the doors, with solid Pristine White the most forgiving shade. The panels we fix are small and predictable — the front bumper corners from parallel parking in Kukatpally, the rear bumper from two-wheelers in traffic, and the bonnet’s leading edge from the Nehru ORR gravel. The 2026 car’s LED lamp clusters sit proud of the bumper and their lenses scratch before the paint does. CNG owners are the most protective because their boot floor is raised and they load the rear bumper top constantly. Short doors and simple shapes make it a quick, clean film job.
What we like
- +Six airbags standard in an entry hatchback
- +Twin-cylinder iCNG keeps a 242 L boot
- +AMT available on petrol and CNG
- +Light, easy to park, cheap to run
What we’d change
- –Thin paint on roof and bonnet
- –Smart-trim waits reached 10–12 weeks in August
- –AMT is slow in traffic
- –No official crash rating for the 2026 car yet
Is the Tiago right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Small footprint, light steering, AMT and CNG — the Tiago is built for Hyderabad’s stop-go and parks where SUVs cannot.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
86 PS and a 2400 mm wheelbase mean it works hard at 100 km/h and the cabin gets noisy.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags and ISOFIX are rare at this price, but the boot and rear seat are entry-hatch sized.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Light and chuckable with quick steering, but there is no power to exploit from the 86 PS engine; it is a commuter first and last.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Lowest entry price in Tata’s range, six airbags, CNG economy and easy resale — the archetypal first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Not a rear-seat car: the back bench is tight for two adults, there is no rear armrest and refinement is entry-hatchback grade.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
170 mm clearance copes with village roads and the occasional dirt stretch, but it is strictly a tarmac car with road tyres.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Tata Tiago: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front and rear bumper corners, bonnet leading edge and the proud LED lamp lenses; CNG cars scuff the rear bumper top edge from loading.
Our recommendation
AG1 bumper-and-bonnet package with headlamp film for most Tiagos; add a rear-bumper loading strip on iCNG cars. Full front for highway commuters.
Coverage
Bumpers, bonnet and lamp lenses as the entry package; full front optional.
