The Auto Grid Review
Tata Aeris Review: Our Verdict
The first Aeris cars reached Kondapur in the second week of October, and they are essentially a Tiago-faced Tigor underneath: same doors, same boot pressing, same thin roof paint, with a new nose and tail. That matters because we know exactly where the Tigor got hurt — the long boot lid that gets leaned on, the rear bumper that two-wheelers nudge at signals, and the front bumper corners in parallel parking. The new Infinity LED tail-lamp bar is a wide, exposed lens that scratches easily. Paint is a touch better than the old Tigor on the Dune Glow and Nitro Crimson metallics, and the dual-tone roof on Creative and Accomplished is cleanly masked. Early buyers are Creative and Accomplished AMT owners who wanted the ventilated seats and the 360° camera at this price; the CNG AMT is the version people in the trade are curious about.
What we like
- +Only compact sedan with CNG and an automatic together
- +Ventilated seats, 360° camera and a dashcam in a sub-10-lakh sedan
- +Six airbags standard
- +419 L boot
What we’d change
- –Carries over the Tigor’s thin roof paint and 86 PS engine
- –Boot lid and rear bumper scuff easily
- –No official crash rating yet
- –AMT only — no DCA
Is the Aeris right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Compact, easy to park, AMT on both fuels and CNG economy; the 360° camera on Creative makes basements easy.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
86 PS is adequate for 100 km/h cruising and the sedan body is quieter than the Tiago, but it is not a fast car.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, ISOFIX, a 419 L boot and a usable rear seat make it a practical small family car.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Nothing here for a keen driver beyond a light, predictable chassis; the 86 PS engine and AMT are tuned purely for economy.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Lower entry price than the Tigor it replaces, CNG option, six airbags and a sedan boot — a strong first-car case.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear legroom is reasonable for a sub-4m sedan and the armrest helps, but refinement and ride polish are entry-level.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
170 mm clearance is fine for village tarmac; the rear overhang scrapes on rough tracks.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Tata Aeris: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Boot lid top and rear bumper from leaning and two-wheeler nudges, front bumper corners from parallel parking, the wide Infinity tail-lamp lens and the thin roof paint.
Our recommendation
AG1 bumper, bonnet and boot-lid strips with tail-lamp film for most Aeris owners; AG1 full-front plus boot package for Accomplished cars in the metallic shades.
Coverage
Front-and-rear bumper package with bonnet and boot strips as the entry; full front plus boot lid recommended.
