The Auto Grid Review
Tata Tiago.ev Review: Our Verdict
Tiago.evs come to Kondapur as fleet and second cars, and we see a lot of them because Hyderabad’s ride-hailing operators like them. The body is the petrol Tiago’s — thin roof and bonnet paint, small panels — with a painted nose panel that shows chips and a charge flap on the front that gets scuffed by cables. Because the car is heavier than the petrol on the same 14-inch tyres, the lower rear doors sand-blast faster than you would expect from a hatchback. Fleet cars arrive with scuffed rear bumpers from passengers’ luggage; private owners, usually Creative+ 24 buyers, want the bonnet and bumpers done and little more. It is the quickest Tata for us to film and the cheapest to keep looking new.
What we like
- +Lowest entry price of any Tata EV
- +285 km certified on the 24 kWh
- +Low running cost, ideal for fleets and second cars
- +BaaS option lowers the upfront price
What we’d change
- –Thin roof and bonnet paint
- –Painted nose shows chips
- –19 kWh variants had 18–24-week waits in August
- –Small boot and 165 mm clearance
Is the Tiago.ev right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The cheapest electric commute in Hyderabad: tiny footprint, instant torque, and 285 km covers a week of city driving on the 24 kWh.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
55 kW, a 2400 mm wheelbase and a 24 kWh pack make it a city car only; expressway runs are slow, noisy and short on range.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
ISOFIX and ESP are there, but the 240 L boot and rear seat are entry-hatch sized.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Instant torque makes it fun to 60 km/h in traffic, and that is the extent of it; there is no power or chassis depth beyond that.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
For a first EV with home charging, the running cost is unbeatable; the 24 kWh is the one to buy.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Not a rear-seat car: the back bench is entry-hatch sized with no armrest, no vents and little legroom for a chauffeur-driven buyer.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
165 mm clearance, road tyres and a 285 km certified range keep it in the city; ghat roads and dirt tracks are out of its brief.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Tata Tiago.ev: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Painted nose panel and charge flap, bonnet leading edge and both bumper corners; lower rear doors sand-blast on the heavier EV; thin roof paint fades outdoors.
Our recommendation
AG1 bumpers-and-bonnet package with the charge-flap surround for private owners; add rear-bumper top strip for fleet cars. Full front only if the paint is worth it.
Coverage
Bumpers, bonnet and charge-flap surround as the entry package.
