The Auto Grid Review
Hyundai i20 N Line Review: Our Verdict
The i20 N Line is a rare but welcome visitor at Kondapur: owners are enthusiasts who usually ask for full-body film, often on a Thunder Blue or Atlas White car with the black roof. The paint quality matches the standard i20, which is good, but the N Line adds painted details that wear: red skid-plate and sill highlights low in the chip zone, a gloss-black roof, black-painted mirrors and the dark-chrome tail-lamp garnish that scratches at the wash. The bumper corners and the front lip chip first, and owners who drive it as intended on the ORR bring it back with sand-blasted lower doors. The twin exhaust tips discolour with heat. We treat it like a Venue N Line: film the red bits, the roof and the front, and the car stays looking new.
What we like
- +The only turbo hatchback Hyundai sells; 120 PS and a real DCT
- +All-disc brakes and a firmer chassis than the i20
- +Bose, navigation screen and Bluelink on N8
- +Six airbags and ESC standard
What we’d change
- –N6 misses the big screen, Bose and the dashcam
- –No crash-test rating published for the current car
- –Red accents and black roof need early protection
- –Priced against the Venue N Line
Is the i20 N Line right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The DCT is smooth in traffic and the car is small and easy to park; the firmer ride is noticeable on Kondapur's broken patches.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Stable at 120 km/h with cruise control, but there is no ADAS and the small turbo is working hard with four aboard.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, ESC and ISOFIX standard, a roomy rear seat for a hatchback, but no NCAP result and a firm ride.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The most engaging Hyundai hatchback in India: 172 Nm from 1,500 rpm, a 6-speed manual, disc brakes all round and a proper exhaust note.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
The N6 manual is a tempting first car for a keen driver, but insurance and tyres cost more than on an i20 Sportz.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
A sporty hatchback with a red cabin and a firm ride; the rear seat is roomy for the class but this is not a chauffeur-driven car.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
A low front lip, low clearance and 16-inch road tyres keep it on tarmac; it is a ghat-road car, not a trail car.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Hyundai i20 N Line: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front lip, bumper corners and red skid-plate and sill highlights chip first; gloss-black roof, black mirrors and the dark-chrome tail-lamp garnish swirl and scratch; lower doors sand-blast on highway drives.
Our recommendation
AG1 Square full body for most i20 N Line owners, because the accents and roof are the point of the car; AG1 full-front plus sills, roof and mirrors as the minimum.
Coverage
Full body preferred; minimum full front plus sill highlights, roof and mirrors.
