The Auto Grid Review
Hyundai Venue Review: Our Verdict
The second-generation Venue has replaced the old one in our bay quickly, mostly as HX8 and HX10 turbo DCTs in Hazel Blue and Atlas White with the black roof. Hyundai's paint on the Pune-built cars is even and the clear coat is reasonably hard, so we see far fewer dealer-polish holograms than on some rivals, though the painted black roof on dual-tone cars shows swirls from the first wash. The upright nose and the bold silver skid plate collect ORR stone chips on the bumper and the lower grille; the quad-beam headlamp housings at the corners are exposed in Hyderabad bumper-to-bumper traffic. The large flat doors are easy to film but the bridge-type roof rails and the sharp C-pillar garnish need careful edges. The matte Mystic Sapphire and Hazel Blue cars are rare but they arrive wanting protection from day one because the matte cannot be corrected.
What we like
- +5-star Bharat NCAP with six airbags standard
- +Three engines including a diesel automatic
- +Dual 12.3-inch screens and Level 2 ADAS on HX10
- +Even factory paint with few dealer-buff marks
What we’d change
- –375-litre boot is smaller than the Nexon's
- –1.2 petrol is manual only
- –Full ADAS suite is HX10 only
- –Dual-tone roof swirls easily
Is the Venue right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 1.0 turbo DCT is the pick for Kukatpally stop-go driving, the turning circle is tight and the standard 10.25-inch screen with wireless CarPlay is a bonus at this price.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The diesel AT has the torque for Vijayawada runs and HX10 adds adaptive cruise, though the sub-4m wheelbase gets busier than a Creta over expansion joints.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
The 5-star Bharat NCAP score, six airbags, ISOFIX and rear sunshade make it the safest sub-4m Hyundai; only the 375-litre boot limits luggage.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The turbo engine is eager and the DCT shifts cleanly, but the suspension is soft; the Venue N Line gets the stiffer setup and twin exhaust.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
HX2 and HX4 1.2 petrol manuals get the full safety kit and a big screen; running costs are low and resale on the Venue has always been strong.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
It is a compact car; rear legroom is fine for two but a chauffeur-driven buyer will want the Creta or Alcazar.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Traction modes and good clearance help on gravel, but it is front-wheel drive and the 16-inch road tyres and short overhangs are the limits.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Hyundai Venue: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Lower front bumper and the grille surround chip first, the quad-beam headlamp corners take parking knocks, and the painted black roof on dual-tone cars swirls within weeks. Matte colours mark permanently if polished.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with headlamp and sill strips on HX5 to HX8 commuters; AG1 Square full body on Knight, dual-tone and matte cars, using a matte-finish film on Mystic Sapphire Matte and Hazel Blue Matte.
Coverage
Full front standard; add the roof on dual-tone cars, lower doors for highway use and full body for Knight and matte editions.
