The Auto Grid Review
Maruti Suzuki Brezza Review: Our Verdict
Brezzas are the compact SUV we see most after the Nexon, and since the July facelift they have arrived in a steady stream: ZXi+ AT cars in Sizzling Red or the Lustrous Beige dual-tone, and a growing number of the cheaper Turbo MTs in Vivacious Orange. The paint is good Arena metallic — deeper than the hatchbacks — but the Brezza has a tall, flat nose with a wide grille and a bumper that sits exactly where ORR gravel lands, so the bumper, grille surround and bonnet leading edge chip early. The black wheel-arch cladding takes the sand-blasting that would otherwise hit the doors, which helps. The roof rails and the dual-tone roof edge show cover and rack rub. The bonnet is one large, lightly creased panel and the headlamps are big but simple, so a full-front package goes on without relief cuts; the ZXi+’s front radar area behind the badge is left clear.
What we like
- +Six airbags standard and a Bharat NCAP score of 30.41/32 on the new car
- +Only compact SUV with a turbo, a CNG and a torque-converter AT in one range
- +Deep metallic paint and cladding that protects the doors
- +Sunroof from ZXi; HUD, 360° camera and 25.65 cm screen on ZXi+
What we’d change
- –Tall flat nose chips early
- –Turbo Boosterjet is manual-only
- –Waiting period stretched to two months after launch
Is the Brezza right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 6-speed AT is smooth, visibility is excellent from the high seat, and the 360° camera on the ZXi+ earns its keep in Jubilee Hills parking; the CNG is the cheapest to run.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Settled at 100–110 km/h, cruise control and blind-spot warning on the ZXi+, and the 1.5 AT is relaxed; the turbo MT is the one for overtaking.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, a strong Bharat NCAP score, ISOFIX, rear vents and a tall, roomy rear bench make it one of the safest family picks under four metres.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The 170 Nm Boosterjet with the 6-speed manual finally gives the Brezza some urgency; the chassis is still comfort-biased.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Easy to drive, strong resale and Maruti running costs; the LXi Turbo is the cheapest way into a turbo SUV, though insurance is higher than a hatch.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear legroom is compact-SUV sized and the seat is upright; fine for short chauffeured hops, not a rear-seat car.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Good clearance and cladding for broken roads to a ghat, but it is front-wheel drive on road tyres; not for real tracks.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front bumper, grille surround and bonnet leading edge chip first on the tall flat nose; roof rails and the dual-tone roof edge show rack and cover rub; the cladding spares the doors.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front is our standard Brezza package, cut around the radar badge on ZXi+ cars; AG1 Square full body for the dual-tone and Sizzling Red cars whose owners bought the colour.
Coverage
Full front standard; add roof-rail strips and rear-arch guards for highway users, full body for the dual-tone editions.
