The Auto Grid Review
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Review: Our Verdict
Grand Vitaras in our Kondapur bay are mostly strong hybrids — Zeta+ and Alpha+ in Nexa Blue, Grandeur Grey or Arctic White with the black roof — bought by owners who did the fuel-cost maths. NEXA paint on this car is deep and consistent and the panel gaps are tidy; the issue is the front: a tall, upright nose with a wide chrome-slatted grille, a bonnet leading edge that sits at stone height, and big LED projector headlamps with exposed lower corners, so the bumper, grille slats and lamp corners chip first on ORR runs. The roof rails show rack rub and the dual-tone roof edge marks under covers. The lower doors behind the front wheels sand-blast past the slim cladding. The bonnet is one big, lightly domed panel that films beautifully; the grille slats are the fiddly part and we film the lamp faces separately.
What we like
- +27.97 km/l strong hybrid with EV mode
- +AllGrip 4WD option — rare in the segment
- +Panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, HUD and 360° camera
- +Deep NEXA paint and consistent assembly
What we’d change
- –Tall nose and exposed headlamp corners chip first
- –No ADAS yet and no Bharat NCAP listing
- –CNG tank takes the boot; base Sigma is sparse
Is the Grand Vitara right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The strong hybrid runs silent in EV mode through Madhapur traffic and claims 27.97 km/l; the 360° camera makes the size easy to park.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Cruise control, a composed ride and a quiet hybrid drivetrain suit the ORR and the Bengaluru highway; no adaptive cruise, unlike the Victoris.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, ISOFIX, rear vents and a roomy rear bench; the lack of an NCAP listing is the only gap against the Victoris.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Neutral and tidy for a tall SUV and the AllGrip AT adds grip, but the powertrains are built for economy, not pace.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
A large, well-equipped first car with higher insurance; the Delta MT or Delta+ hybrid are the sensible entries.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Good rear legroom, a calm hybrid drivetrain and the panoramic roof make it a comfortable chauffeured car at the price.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
AllGrip 4WD with hill descent, skid plates and roof rails suit ghats and dirt tracks; tyres are road-biased.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front bumper, chrome grille slats, bonnet leading edge and the exposed lower corners of the LED projectors chip first; roof rails and the dual-tone roof edge rub; lower doors sand-blast.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with headlamp film and lower-door strips is our standard Grand Vitara package; AG1 Square full body on the Nexa Blue and dual-tone Alpha+ cars.
Coverage
Full front standard; add lower doors, roof-rail strips and rear-arch guards for highway users, full body for the dual-tone shades.
