The Auto Grid Review
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Review: Our Verdict
Alto K10s come to the Kondapur bay less for show and more because a first car gets parked on the street. The paint is thin solid or light metallic — Solid White and Silky Silver dominate — and it marks easily: the front bumper corners and the leading edge of the bonnet pick up chips from Gachibowli flyover traffic within the first year, and the door edges get dinged in apartment parking. The 13-inch wheels and narrow track mean the lower doors and sills take a lot of spray on wet roads. Most owners here buy the VXi+ AGS in a metallic shade; the Std and LXi cars we see are usually fleet or second cars. It is a small, simple car to film because the panels are flat and the bumpers are plain, so a front package goes on in a few hours.
What we like
- +Lowest running cost in the Maruti line-up with a 33 km/kg CNG option
- +Six airbags and ESP listed on every variant
- +AGS automatic at an entry price
- +Huge service network and cheap parts
What we’d change
- –Thin paint and plastic bumpers mark early
- –Narrow body and 13-inch wheels limit stability at speed
- –Base Std variant has no AC
Is the Alto K10 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The AGS, a 4.5 m turning radius and light steering make it one of the easiest cars to thread through Ameerpet traffic; mileage in stop-go stays above 20 km/l.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Short gearing, a 998 cc engine and a narrow track mean it is out of its depth above 90 km/h on the ORR; crosswinds move it around.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags help, but the rear bench is tight for three and the 214 L boot is weekend-bag sized only.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Nothing here for a driver; the engine is willing but the chassis, brakes and tyres are built for economy, not corners.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
This is the car it was built to be: cheap to insure, cheap to run, forgiving to drive and easy to sell on through the Maruti True Value network.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
No rear legroom, no rear AC and a lot of noise — not a car anyone is chauffeured in.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Low clearance and road tyres rule out dirt tracks; it will reach a ghat but it will not enjoy one loaded.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front bumper corners, the bonnet leading edge and the lower doors and sills; solid and light-metallic paints show chips and parking dings quickly.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front (bumper, bonnet, mirrors, headlamps) for cars that live on the street or do daily highway stretches; owners who keep it as a second car usually stop at a bumper-and-bonnet package.
Coverage
Full front standard; add door-edge and sill strips for apartment-parking owners.
