The Auto Grid Review

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Review: Our Verdict

3.2/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

The S-Presso is a tall box on a short wheelbase, and in our Kondapur bay the panels that suffer are the ones that stick out: the flat, upright front bumper and the big bonnet take stone chips head-on, and the black lower cladding scuffs but hides it. Solid Fire Red and Sizzle Orange are the colours owners choose to stand out, and solid paint on those shows every chip as a white dot. Owners here are mostly first-car buyers from the IT corridor who park on the road; door edges and the rear bumper corners arrive with parking damage before the first service. Because the body is simple and the glass is upright, a full-front film is quick to lay and the bonnet is one of the easiest in the Maruti range to do without seams.

What we like

  • +Upright seating and good visibility at an entry price
  • +AGS automatic and a 32.7 km/kg CNG option
  • +Cheap to insure, run and service
  • +Simple panels are easy to protect

What we’d change

  • –Only the driver airbag is listed on most variants; ESP only on VXi+ (O)
  • –Narrow body and tall stance make it nervous in crosswinds
  • –Solid paints chip visibly

Is the S-Presso right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

Tall seating, a 4.5 m turning circle and the AGS make it a relaxed car in Kukatpally traffic; the AC copes because the cabin is small.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

A tall, narrow car with a 998 cc engine is not an ORR car; it feels every truck that passes and runs out of breath at 100 km/h.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

Four adults fit upright, but the boot is small and the safety list is thinner than the Alto K10’s six-airbag spec.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

Body roll and skinny tyres rule it out for anyone who cares about steering; it is transport, not entertainment.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

Easy to see out of, forgiving to park and the cheapest Maruti to run on CNG — the reason most of them in our bay are first cars.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

A tall, noisy, small car with no rear AC and a flat rear bench; nobody is chauffeured in an S-Presso.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

The high seating and 14-inch wheels handle broken roads better than the Alto, but there is no clearance or traction for real trails.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

The upright front bumper and large flat bonnet take chips head-on; solid red and orange paints show them most, and door edges collect parking dings.

Our recommendation

AG1 full-front on the solid-colour cars that park on the road; the flat bonnet films without seams so it is a quick, clean install.

Coverage

Full front standard; add door-edge strips and rear bumper corners for apartment parking.
