The Auto Grid Review
Tata Curvv Review: Our Verdict
The Curvv is the Tata we see least often at Kondapur, which is a pity because it is one of the nicest to film: the roofline flows into a tailgate with no sharp break, the flush handles are the same units as the Sierra, and the paint — especially Gold Essence and Opera Blue — has better depth than the Nexon it is based on. Where it suffers is the sloping tailgate glass and the spoiler lip, which get wiped dry by every car-wash attendant in the city, and the long rear quarter panel that is one big curved surface — a single trolley ding there is expensive. The front is Nexon-like: a short bonnet, a bumper that takes the stones. Most owners who come in bought the Accomplished X+ DCA petrol for the powered tailgate and the panoramic roof, and they want the whole car filmed because the rear quarter is the car’s signature.
What we like
- +Distinctive coupé shape with a 500 L boot
- +Powered tailgate, panoramic roof and ventilated seats in the mid-range after the Series X update
- +5-star BNCAP
- +Three engines with a proper 7-speed DCA
What we’d change
- –Rear quarter panel is one huge curved surface — costly to repair
- –Sloping rear glass swirls easily
- –Rear headroom suffers for the roofline
- –Rear drum brakes on lower trims
Is the Curvv right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 7-speed DCA and 208 mm clearance make it an easy daily; the sloping rear glass does limit the view when reversing, so use the camera.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The diesel DCA is quiet and economical at 100–110 km/h and the longer 2560 mm wheelbase rides better than the Nexon.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
5-star BNCAP, six airbags, ISOFIX and a 500 L boot; the rear seat is comfortable for two adults but the roofline pinches headroom.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The Hyperion 125 PS turbo-petrol with 225 Nm and the DCA is the most responsive drivetrain here, but it is still a comfort-tuned chassis.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
From ten lakh it is a reasonable step up from a hatchback, and the simplified Series X trims are easier to pick than the Nexon’s.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Nice cabin and a sunshade, but rear headroom and legroom are coupé-compromised compared with the Harrier.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
208 mm clearance helps on broken roads, but the long rear overhang and road tyres keep it on tarmac.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Tata Curvv: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front bumper and bonnet lip take stones; the sloping tailgate glass surround, spoiler lip and the single large rear quarter panel swirl and ding first; flush door handles scuff.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front plus rear quarter panels and tailgate surround — the Curvv is a car where we recommend AG1 Square full body more often than any other Tata because the rear is the design.
Coverage
Full body recommended; minimum package is full front with rear quarter and tailgate top strips.
Tata Curvv vs Sierra vs BE 6 vs Nexon
