The Auto Grid Review
Tata Sierra Review: Our Verdict
The Sierra has been the surprise of 2026 at our Kondapur bay: it arrives almost every week, and almost always as an Accomplished or Accomplished+ in Pristine White with the black roof. The paint on Tata’s new TMGA-era cars is a clear step up from the older Harrier — the clear coat is harder and the orange peel is lower — but the Sierra has three panels that worry us. The long, flat bonnet and the bluff nose sit square-on to ORR debris, the flush door handles collect scuffs from rings and keys within weeks, and the piano-black B-pillar tape marks the moment someone wipes it dry. Owners buying the 19-inch Accomplished also discover how exposed the wheel-arch lips are on Gachibowli kerbs. It is a genuinely well-finished car to work on; the panel gaps are consistent and the flush handles need a careful film wrap rather than a blanket cut. Our honest view: if you have paid for the turbo-petrol or diesel AT, protect the front half on day one.
What we like
- +Hard, even clear coat compared with older Tatas
- +Huge 622 L boot and a usable rear seat
- +Three engines and a proper AT on every one
- +5-star BNCAP across the range
What we’d change
- –Flush door handles scuff early
- –Piano-black trim shows swirls fast
- –59 variants make the price list hard to navigate
- –Smart+ petrol waits were the longest in Tata’s range in August
Is the Sierra right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 7-speed DCA petrol is the city pick; 205 mm clearance clears Hyderabad speed bumps and the 360° camera makes tight basements easy.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Diesel AT with 280 Nm, Level 2 ADAS from Accomplished and a quiet cabin — this is the Sierra owners tell us they bought for ORR and Vijayawada runs.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
5-star BNCAP, six airbags standard, 622 L boot and a reclining rear bench cover the school-run-to-road-trip brief better than most rivals.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
160 PS turbo-petrol with a torque-converter AT is quick enough, and the chassis is the most composed Tata we have driven out of the bay.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Starting above eleven lakh with 59 variants, it is a lot of car and a lot of decisions for a first purchase; a Punch or Nexon is the easier entry.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear recline, Boss mode, rear USB-C and a sunshade make the back seat a good place; the Accomplished+ air purifier helps on Hyderabad AQI days.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Terrain modes, 205 mm clearance and a strong diesel suit ghat roads and Nallamala tracks, though there is no 4x4 on the ICE Sierra.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Tata Sierra: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Bonnet leading edge, front bumper and the flush door handles chip and scuff first; the piano-black pillar tape and the 19-inch wheel-arch lips mark next. Dual-tone roof edges collect polish swirls.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front (bonnet, bumper, fenders, mirrors, A-pillars) at minimum for every Sierra; AG1 Square full-body for Accomplished+ cars with the premium paint, with hand-cut wraps around the flush handles and the pillar tape so no edge lifts.
Coverage
Full front as standard; full body plus door-handle cups, pillar tape and door-edge guards recommended for Pristine White and Dark Edition cars.
