The Auto Grid Review
Hyundai Aura Review: Our Verdict
Auras are frequent in the Kondapur bay for one reason: a large share of them are bought as chauffeur-driven or fleet-adjacent cars by owners who want them to look showroom-fresh for years, usually an SX or SX(O) in Atlas White or Typhoon Silver, and increasingly the CNG. The paint is NIOS-grade: thin on the lower panels and a soft clear coat that shows dealer-polish holograms on Starry Night. The boot lid is the panel we see damaged most, from luggage and from the chrome garnish being polished through; the low front bumper chips on speed breakers as well as stones, and the rear bumper corners collect scrapes. The CNG cars carry a large tank and sit lower at the back, which brings the rear bumper closer to kerbs. The sedan boot and four flat doors make it quick to film.
What we like
- +Six airbags and 3-point belts standard on every variant
- +Factory CNG with low running costs
- +Big boot and a comfortable rear seat for the size
- +Low purchase, insurance and service costs
What we’d change
- –ESC only on SX and SX(O)
- –AMT is the only automatic and it is slow
- –No crash-test rating published
- –Soft clear coat and thin lower-panel paint
Is the Aura right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Light, easy to park and economical, with rear AC vents from S upward; the AMT is adequate for Ameerpet traffic.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
It will cruise at 100 km/h, but the 83 PS engine and light body are tiring on long ORR or NH65 runs.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Standard six airbags and a 402-litre-class boot help, but ESC and ISOFIX only arrive on the top trims and no NCAP result exists.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
A comfort-first commuter sedan with light steering and an 83 PS engine; there is no performance intent and no automatic beyond the AMT.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
One of the cheapest sedans to own in Hyderabad, especially as a CNG, with Hyundai's service reach behind it.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear legroom and a flat floor make it a popular small chauffeur-driven car; refinement and width are the compromises.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Low clearance, a heavy CNG tank at the back on Hy-CNG cars and road tyres make it a city and highway car only, not a trail car.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Hyundai Aura: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Low front bumper (speed breakers and stones), boot lid and rear bumper corners (luggage and kerbs, lower still on CNG cars), and the chrome boot garnish that gets polished through. Dark colours show dealer holograms.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front plus boot-lid ledge and rear bumper corners for chauffeur-driven Auras; AG1 Square full body for owners who want a fleet car to stay showroom-fresh.
Coverage
Full front standard; add boot-lid ledge, rear bumper corners and lower doors for daily chauffeur use.
