The Auto Grid Review
Maruti Suzuki Dzire Review: Our Verdict
The current Dzire is the car that made us revise what we expect from Maruti paint: the Nutmeg Brown and Alluring Blue metallics are deep, the panel gaps are even, and dealer-delivery swirls are rarer than on the hatchbacks. It still has a Swift nose, though — low, with a wide chrome-ringed grille and a bumper lip that catches ORR stones — and the long rear deck means the boot lid edge and rear bumper top get loading scuffs from airport-run luggage. Most Dzires in Kondapur are ZXi+ AMTs, often with the sunroof, and a growing share are CNG AGS cars from ride-hailing owners who want the boot and the running cost. The bonnet and the flat doors film cleanly; the chrome grille surround is the one piece we trim carefully around.
What we like
- +5-star Global NCAP adult rating and six airbags standard
- +36 km/kg CNG with an automatic — unique in the segment
- +Deep paint and even panel gaps
- +Sunroof and 360° camera on the ZXi+
What we’d change
- –Low nose and lip chip first
- –Boot capacity not published by Maruti; CNG tank eats boot space
- –Three-cylinder thrum at idle
Is the Dzire right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The AMT, 26 km/l claimed economy and a 4.8 m turning circle make it a relaxed commuter; the CNG AGS is the cheapest automatic sedan to run in Hyderabad.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Settled at 100–110 km/h on the ORR, cruise control on the ZXi+, and the sedan body is quieter than the Swift; the 37 L tank is the limit.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Five-star GNCAP, ISOFIX, rear AC vents and a usable rear bench make it a safe family sedan; the CNG tank cuts into boot space.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Composed but soft; the Z12E has enough for traffic, not for enthusiasm, and the AMT dulls what is there.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
India’s best-selling car for a reason: easy to drive, cheap to run, strong resale and every Maruti workshop knows it.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear legroom is good for a sub-4m sedan and the ride is calm; it works as a budget chauffeured car, though the rear seat is low.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Tarmac only; the low nose scrapes on broken approaches and ground clearance is sedan-level.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front bumper lip and grille surround take ORR stone chips; boot-lid edge and rear bumper top get luggage scuffs; lower doors sand-blast on wet roads.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front plus a boot-lid edge and rear bumper top strip is our standard Dzire package; AG1 Square full body for the dark metallics whose owners want the finish kept.
Coverage
Full front standard; add boot-lid edge, rear bumper top and lower doors for airport-run and highway users.
