The Auto Grid Review
Hyundai Verna Review: Our Verdict
The Verna is the sedan we see most often in Kondapur, and after the March 2026 update it is arriving as HX8 and HX10 turbo DCTs in Atlas White and Titan Grey, with a steady run of IVT cars in Starry Night bought for the rear seat. Hyundai's paint on the Verna is among the best in its range: deep, even and with a clear coat hard enough that most cars need only a light polish before film. The long, low nose puts the bonnet leading edge and the black-chrome grille surround square in the stone line, and the low front lip scrapes on Hyderabad speed breakers, which is why we always film the lower bumper. The satin-chrome window line and door handles scratch at the wash, and the boot lid collects luggage marks. The turbo's red calipers and dark grey alloys collect brake dust. The big flat doors and boot make it one of the most satisfying cars to film.
What we like
- +5-star Global NCAP and a seventh airbag on HX10
- +The most powerful engine in the segment with a real DCT
- +Ventilated seats, Bose and twin screens
- +Longest wheelbase and best rear-seat room in class
What we’d change
- –Low front lip scrapes on speed breakers
- –ADAS is limited to HX8 turbo and HX10
- –No diesel
- –Satin chrome trim scratches easily
Is the Verna right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The IVT is smooth and economical in Banjara Hills traffic; the low lip and long body need care over speed breakers and in tight basements.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The 160 PS turbo DCT with adaptive cruise, a long wheelbase and a quiet cabin is the best highway Hyundai under the Alcazar.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Five Global NCAP stars, six or seven airbags, ISOFIX and a big boot make it a strong family sedan; only a low ride height counts against it on bad roads.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The turbo manual is a genuine driver's sedan with 253 Nm, disc brakes all round on the DCT and a composed chassis.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
HX2 and HX4 are well-equipped, safe cars, but the Aura or i20 make easier first cars in a city of speed breakers.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Longest wheelbase in class, a reclining rear with sunshade and a quiet cabin make the HX10 IVT a strong chauffeur-driven choice.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
A low sedan with a long front overhang on road tyres: ghat roads and expressways yes, dirt tracks and flooded underpasses no.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Hyundai Verna: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Bonnet leading edge and grille surround from highway stones; the low front lip from speed breakers; satin-chrome window line and door handles from washing; boot lid from luggage. Matte Titan Grey cannot be corrected.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front including the lower lip, with handle cups and boot-lid ledge for chauffeur-driven cars; AG1 Square full body on turbo and matte cars with a matte-finish film on Titan Grey Matte.
Coverage
Full front plus lower lip standard; add handle cups, boot-lip ledge and sills for daily use, and full body for turbo and matte cars.
