The Auto Grid Review
Maruti Suzuki XL6 Review: Our Verdict
XL6s in our Kondapur bay are family and chauffeured cars in roughly equal numbers — Alpha Plus ATs in Brave Khaki or Splendid Silver with the black roof for the families, Arctic White Zeta ATs for the drivers. NEXA paint on the XL6 is deeper than the Ertiga’s, and the black cladding around the wheel arches does a job the Ertiga lacks: the doors stay cleaner because the arches take the sand-blasting. The nose is tall and flat with a big chrome X-bar grille and quad-chamber LED headlamps, so ORR stones hit the bumper, the grille bars and the headlamp faces first, and the bonnet leading edge second. The roof rails and the dual-tone roof edge show rack and cover rub. The long, flat bonnet and the slab-sided doors film quickly; the grille bars are the fiddly part and we film the headlamp faces separately.
What we like
- +Captain seats and a calm cabin for six
- +Six airbags, ESP and cruise control on every variant
- +Ventilated seats and a 360° camera on the Alpha Plus
- +Cladding keeps the doors cleaner than the Ertiga
What we’d change
- –Tall nose, grille bars and headlamp faces chip first
- –17.78 cm screen across the range feels small
- –Halogen-era cabin refinement; the K15C is relaxed, not quick
Is the XL6 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 6-speed AT and the 360° camera on the Alpha Plus make the length manageable, but it is still a 4.5 m MPV in Ameerpet traffic.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Cruise control standard, a settled ride and a quiet cabin for six on a Vijayawada run; the K15C is unhurried on inclines.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, ISOFIX, captain seats with their own vents and a flat-fold third row — the easiest MPV for school runs and road trips.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Tall, soft and built to carry six people in comfort; the steering and chassis have nothing to offer a keen driver.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Long, pricey to insure for a first car and overkill for a learner; the Ertiga does the job for less.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The second-row captain seats with armrests, rear vents and a calm ride make it one of the best chauffeured cars under the Innova.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Carries six and luggage to a hill station on tarmac with cladding to spare; front-wheel drive and road tyres end it there.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Maruti Suzuki XL6: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front bumper, chrome X-bar grille and the quad-chamber headlamp faces chip first; bonnet leading edge second; roof rails and the dual-tone roof edge rub; tailgate edge marks on luggage.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with headlamp film and a tailgate-edge strip is our standard XL6 package; AG1 Square full body on the Brave Khaki and dual-tone Alpha Plus cars.
Coverage
Full front standard; add tailgate edge, roof-rail strips and rear-arch guards for family highway use.
