The Auto Grid Review

Toyota Vellfire Review: Our Verdict

4.5/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

A Vellfire in the Kondapur bay is usually a VIP Executive Lounge in Platinum White Pearl or Black, delivered to a film producer, a hospital group or a political family, and it is filmed full body as a matter of course because a CBU repaint is slow and expensive. Being built in Japan, the paint is a step above Bidadi — deep, uniform and with Toyota's premium gloss coating — which makes the damage it does pick up more visible, not less. The slab sides of a two-metre-tall MPV with sliding doors collect scuffs along the lower door rails and the sliding-door track line, the huge chrome grille and the near-vertical bonnet take highway stone, and the rear quarter panels behind the 19-inch wheels sand-blast on the airport road. Black Vellfires show every PDI swirl under our lamps. The sliding doors need the film cut precisely at the track so nothing lifts after a thousand openings.

What we like

  • +The most luxurious rear seat sold by Toyota in India — ottomans, massage, dual sunroof
  • +Japanese CBU build and paint quality
  • +Strong hybrid refinement with 19.28 km/l claimed
  • +Toyota Safety Sense and a 360-degree monitor as standard

What we’d change

  • –Only six airbags on a car at this price
  • –Sliding-door track line and lower door rails scuff easily
  • –Three-to-four-month wait in Hyderabad
  • –No AWD and a firm ride on 19-inch wheels at low speed

Is the Vellfire right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

Five metres long and nearly two metres tall; the hybrid is silent in traffic and the 360 monitor helps, but this is a chauffeur's job, not a commuter's.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

Adaptive cruise, lane trace, a long wheelbase and the quietest cabin in Toyota's range make Hyderabad to Vijayawada feel like a flight in business class.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

Seven seats, sliding doors and acres of space suit a large family, though six airbags and the price put it beyond most family budgets.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

A tall hybrid MPV tuned entirely for rear-seat comfort; there is nothing here for the driver.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

A crore-plus imported MPV with CBU parts pricing and a five-metre body is not a first car; it is bought by people who already own several.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

Powered ottomans, massage, a detachable control pad, sunblinds and a dual sunroof — this is the car bought specifically to be sat in the back of.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

Ground clearance and sliding doors keep it on good roads; it is a highway and city limousine.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Toyota Vellfire: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

Lower door rails and the sliding-door track line scuff from daily use; the vertical bonnet and chrome grille take highway stone; rear quarters behind the 19-inch wheels sand-blast; Black shows PDI holograms.

Our recommendation

AG1 Square full body with precise cuts along the sliding-door tracks and the chrome surrounds — a CBU repaint is slow and costly, so every Vellfire we see is filmed end to end; we correct PDI swirls on Black and Precious Metal before filming.

Coverage

Full body is the only Vellfire package we recommend; include door rails, sliding-door edges and the rear quarters.
