The Auto Grid Review
Toyota Rumion Review: Our Verdict
The Rumion is the Ertiga wearing a Toyota grille, and in our Kondapur bay it is almost always a fleet or joint-family purchase: G AT in Enticing Silver or Cafe White, bought for school runs and the monthly trip to Vijayawada. The paint is the same Maruti finish as the Ertiga — adequate thickness, no orange peel, but the large flat doors and the tall tailgate pick up trolley dents and parking scuffs, and the front bumper's chrome garnish chips at the lower edge. Silver and white hide the wear; Midnight Black and Rustic Brown show every swirl from the dealer's delivery polish. Owners rarely film the whole car; a full front and a tailgate panel is the sensible package for a vehicle that earns its keep on the highway.
What we like
- +Seven real seats with a flat-folding third row
- +Six airbags and ESP standard across grades
- +Toyota warranty and service on an Ertiga-proven drivetrain
- +CNG option with 26.11 km/kg claimed
What we’d change
- –Third row is for children or short trips
- –Front bumper chrome garnish chips at the lower edge
- –No turbo or diesel; the 1.5 works hard with seven aboard
- –CNG only on the S grade
Is the Rumion right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 6AT with Neo Drive idle start-stop is smooth in stop-go, visibility is excellent from the high seat, and the CNG makes a cheap school-run car.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Composed at 100 km/h and the V has cruise control, but the 1.5 needs downshifts on inclines with a full cabin and road noise builds on concrete.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Seven seats, six airbags, ISOFIX, three rows of AC and a boot that still takes luggage with the third row folded — this is what it is for.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Soft springs, a modest engine and MPV body roll; there is nothing here for the driver who cares about corners.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Easy to drive and cheap to run, but its size and price make it a second-family-car purchase more than a first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The second row is roomy and the captain-seat feel is absent; it is a family bench, not an executive seat.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Ground clearance is fine for village roads but it is front-wheel drive with highway tyres and seven people's luggage to carry.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Toyota Rumion: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Front bumper lower edge and chrome garnish chip first; large flat doors and the tall tailgate collect parking and trolley scuffs; dark colours show delivery-polish swirls.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front plus door-edge guards and a tailgate panel for family and fleet cars; AG1 Square full body for Midnight Black or Rustic Brown owners who want the paint to look new at resale.
Coverage
Full front standard; add tailgate, door edges and sills for high-mileage users; full body for dark colours.
