The Auto Grid Review
MG Hector Review: Our Verdict
The all-new Hector is still rare enough in our Kondapur bay that every one that comes in gets a close look, and the pattern so far is consistent with its size — the long bonnet and the tall front bumper take the brunt of ORR stone chips, and the panoramic sunroof's dual-pane seal is an area we inspect carefully before filming around it. Pearl White and Aurora Silver cars show the usual dealer-prep swirl, but less than we'd expect on a car this size, which suggests MG's current paint process is a step up from the outgoing-generation Hector. Savvy Pro CVT buyers at the ₹19-20 lakh mark are protecting a genuine family flagship, and most ask for the full body rather than just the front.
What we like
- +India's largest-claimed 14-inch infotainment screen and a genuinely spacious cabin
- +143 PS turbo-petrol feels strong for the segment, especially with the CVT
- +Dual-pane panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats on Pro trims
- +MG Shield ownership programme bundles warranty, RSA and service for 3 years
What we’d change
- –No current-generation Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP crash-test result published
- –No diesel confirmed for the current facelift as of this writing
- –ARAI/claimed mileage figure not published on MG's own page
- –MG's Hyderabad dealer and service footprint is thinner than Tata's or Hyundai's
Is the Hector right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
It's a big SUV for daily city driving, but the CVT and light controls make it manageable, and the 360° camera helps park it in Hyderabad's older neighbourhoods.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
143 PS and a relaxed CVT make it a comfortable ORR and highway cruiser, with a cabin that stays quiet at speed.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
The 6/7-seat layouts and a genuinely large cabin work well for families, though the absence of a current crash-test score is worth asking MG about directly.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The Hector is tuned for comfort and space, not for a driver who wants to feel the road.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Its size and price point put it above most first-car budgets; it's really a step-up or family-upgrade purchase.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear seat space, the panoramic sunroof and the quiet cabin make the top trims genuinely pleasant to be driven in.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Front-wheel-drive and road-biased tyres mean this is a highway-and-city SUV, not an off-roader.
Paint Protection
PPF for the MG Hector: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The long bonnet and tall front bumper take the first stone chips on ORR and highway runs; the dual-pane panoramic sunroof seal and the large flat tailgate are areas we inspect closely before and after filming.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front film for Style and Sharp Pro buyers using it as a daily family SUV; AG1 Square full body for Savvy Pro owners protecting a flagship-priced purchase.
Coverage
Full front standard; add full body, mirror caps and the sunroof surround for highway-heavy families and Savvy Pro cars.

FAQs
MG Hector: Questions Buyers Ask
MG's own vehicle page states the all-new Hector is priced between ₹12,14,000 and ₹20,14,800 ex-showroom, as checked on 1 November 2026. The Style launch trim introduced at ₹11,99,000 in December 2025.
MG's December 2025 launch press release said a diesel variant would follow "next year," but as of this writing only the 1.5L turbo-petrol is confirmed on sale — we could not verify a diesel Hector is currently available.
No Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP result has been published for the all-new (2025–) Hector. The earlier, outgoing-generation Hector was tested by Global NCAP in 2019 and scored 3 stars for adult occupant protection — that rating does not apply to the current car.
No dated 2026 dealer or news survey of Hector waiting periods was found at the time of writing — this is a newly facelifted model, so check availability directly with your nearest MG dealership.
The Hector is physically larger with the bigger 14-inch screen and an available 7-seat layout; the Seltos is better-rounded with a confirmed 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, a wider engine/gearbox choice and a larger dealer network.
It's a strong pick if you want segment-leading screen size, cabin space and a 7-seat option at this price — the trade-offs are a heavier CVT-dominant petrol-only line-up (12.34-13.79 kmpl ARAI) and no current-generation crash-test score yet.
Yes, on the Savvy Pro trim; the base Style and mid Sharp Pro are 5- or 6-seat configurations. Check seating layout by trim before booking.
MG said at the December 2025 facelift launch that a diesel version comes later in 2026, but we could not confirm one is on sale as of this writing — the current Hector is petrol-only (6MT or CVT).
Sharp Pro CVT is the value pick — ADAS, the panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats without the Savvy Pro's 7-seat premium. Choose Savvy Pro only if you specifically need the third row.
Its long bonnet and tall bumper take highway stone chips first, so an AG1 full-front film is our standard recommendation, with a full-body wrap for Savvy Pro buyers protecting the top-spec car.
Indicatively ₹14.56 lakh–₹25.05 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹12.14 lakh–₹20.15 lakh (Delhi, 1 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (17%–18%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
MG Motor's claimed figures: 1.5L turbo-petrol (MT) — 13.79 kmpl (ARAI); 1.5L turbo-petrol (CVT) — 12.34 kmpl (ARAI). Real-world figures depend on traffic, load and driving style.
The top variant is the Savvy Pro CVT (7-seater) (Petrol, CVT) at ₹19.65 lakh ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the Style (Petrol, 6-speed MT) at ₹12.14 lakh. 3 variants in all, as of 1 Nov 2026.
Hector: Midsize SUV, ₹12.14 lakh – ₹20.15 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol, Auto Grid rating 4.0/5. Creta N Line: Midsize SUV (performance trim), ₹19.03 lakh – ₹20.10 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol, rated 4.1/5. See the Hyundai Creta N Line page for its full variant list and our verdict.
