The Auto Grid Review
MG Windsor EV Review: Our Verdict
The Windsor EV is MG's biggest seller and the one that turns up most often in our bay among its EVs, usually in Pearl White or Starry Black on the Exclusive or Essence trims. The flush door handles and the flat, aero-shaped bonnet are genuinely easy panels to film, but the large glass roof surround and the tailgate's SmartFlow light bar are areas we tape off carefully, since any film overlap there is visible every time the boot opens. Owners who've paid for the 52.9 kWh Pro battery are protecting a near-₹20 lakh purchase and consistently ask for the full body rather than just the front — this is the car in MG's range we most often see get the complete AG1 Square treatment.
What we like
- +Largest-in-segment 604 L boot and genuinely reclining Aero-Lounge seats
- +Two battery sizes let buyers choose range over price — 332 km or 449 km claimed
- +Essence Pro adds full Level 2 ADAS, V2L and V2V at a still-competitive price
- +MG's BaaS plan meaningfully lowers the upfront cost for buyers who want it
What we’d change
- –No Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP crash-test result published for the Windsor EV
- –Entry Excite trim skips the 360° camera and the bigger GrandView screen
- –Prices have risen twice in 2026 (₹15,000 flat hike in late October/November)
- –MG's charging and service network is thinner outside major metros than Tata's
Is the Windsor EV right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Light controls, a tight-enough footprint and the 332 km battery comfortably cover a daily Hyderabad commute between charges.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
136 PS is adequate rather than quick for ORR overtaking, and the 449 km Pro battery is the one to pick for longer outstation runs.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
6 airbags, the 604 L boot and a genuinely spacious cabin suit a family, though the absence of a published crash-test score is a gap to ask MG about directly.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
It's tuned for comfort and range, not driver engagement — there's little here for someone who wants to feel the road.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
A capable first EV for a buyer comfortable with MG's thinner-than-Tata's service network in Hyderabad, helped by the BaaS option's lower upfront cost.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Quiet, reclining rear-friendly seats and the glass roof make the Essence and Pro trims genuinely pleasant to be driven in.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
186 mm ground clearance and front-wheel drive keep this to tarmac; it isn't built for broken or unpaved roads.
Paint Protection
PPF for the MG Windsor EV: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The flat aero-shaped bonnet and front bumper take highway stone chips first; the glass-roof surround and the SmartFlow tail-lamp bar need careful masking since any film overlap there shows every time the boot or roof catches the light.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front film for Excite and Exclusive buyers using it as a daily EV; AG1 Square full body for Essence Pro owners protecting a near-₹20 lakh purchase.
Coverage
Full front and mirror caps standard; add full body, glass-roof surround masking and the tailgate light bar for Pro-trim and highway-heavy owners.

FAQs
MG Windsor EV: Questions Buyers Ask
MG prices the Windsor EV from ₹14,84,800 (Excite) to ₹19,14,800 (Essence Pro) ex-showroom, after a flat ₹15,000 price increase that took effect around late October/November 2026, per MG's own price page and CarWale's dated report.
MG claims 332 km (MIDC Part 1+2) from the 38 kWh battery on Excite, Exclusive and Essence, and 449 km from the larger 52.9 kWh Pro battery on Exclusive Pro and Essence Pro.
No Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP crash-test result has been published for the Windsor EV as of this writing.
Essence gets the glass roof, ventilated seats and the bigger GrandView screen without the Pro premium; step up to Essence Pro only if you need the 449 km battery, full Level 2 ADAS and V2L/V2V.
It's India's best-selling EV for a reason — a genuinely spacious cabin, a large boot and a battery choice that covers both city and longer-range buyers. The honest trade-offs are two price hikes in 2026 and no published crash-test result yet.
It's worth buying if you want a spacious, well-equipped EV and can live with MG's thinner service network next to Tata's or Hyundai's; the Essence trim is the sweet spot, and you only need the Pro battery if you regularly drive beyond city distances.
The Windsor EV is a size class up with a bigger boot, longer MIDC range and a more premium cabin; the Nexon EV is smaller, cheaper and backed by Tata's wider charging and service network. Choose by budget and the space you actually need.
No. The Windsor EV seats 5; MG does not offer a 7-seat version of this model.
Yes. Like all EVs it drives through a single-speed automatic reduction gear — there is no manual option.
Its bonnet and front bumper take the first highway chips, and the glass-roof surround and tail-lamp light bar need careful masking, so our standard recommendation is a full-front AG1 film with a full-body option for Pro-trim buyers.
Indicatively ₹15.27 lakh–₹19.97 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹14.85 lakh–₹19.15 lakh (Delhi, 1 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (0% (EV exemption)), first-year insurance and registration. EVs pay no road tax or registration fee in Telangana until 31 December 2026. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
The top variant is the Essence Pro (Electric, Automatic) at ₹19.15 lakh ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the Excite (Electric, Automatic) at ₹14.85 lakh. 5 variants in all, as of 1 Nov 2026.
Windsor EV: Electric midsize SUV, ₹14.85 lakh – ₹19.15 lakh ex-showroom, Electric, Auto Grid rating 4.1/5. Carens Clavis EV: Electric 3-row MPV, ₹18.04 lakh – ₹25.00 lakh ex-showroom, Electric, rated 4.1/5. See the Kia Carens Clavis EV page for its full variant list and our verdict.
Windsor EV: Electric midsize SUV, ₹14.85 lakh – ₹19.15 lakh ex-showroom, Electric, Auto Grid rating 4.1/5. e Vitara: Midsize electric SUV, ₹16.19 lakh – ₹20.21 lakh ex-showroom, Electric, rated 4.2/5. See the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara page for its full variant list and our verdict.
