The Auto Grid Review
Kia Carens Clavis EV Review: Our Verdict
The Clavis EV is still a rare sight in our Kondapur bay — it's India's first mass-market electric MPV and most of the ones we've handled have come in for a full-body film rather than just the front, since owners who've paid a premium over the ICE Clavis tend to want the whole car protected. The side charging-port flap is the one panel that's easy to overlook when quoting a job, and the dual-pane sunroof surround on the ER trims needs careful masking. Paint quality under our lamps has been clean so far, no dealer-buff marks, consistent with the newer production run that came with the MY26 update.
What we like
- +5-star Bharat NCAP rating — the safety case the ICE Clavis still lacks
- +First mass-market electric MPV in India, with a genuinely usable 490 km Extended Range claim
- +Battery-as-a-Service option lowers the entry price for budget-conscious buyers
- +Shares the Clavis' practical captain-seat and sunroof equipment
What we’d change
- –Significantly pricier than the ICE Clavis for the same body and features
- –Front-wheel drive only, with a single motor across the range
- –Limited public charging infrastructure for MPV-sized EVs outside major cities
- –Too new to have meaningful long-term reliability data
Is the Carens Clavis EV right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 42 kWh car comfortably covers a week of Kondapur family-and-school-run driving between charges.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The Extended Range pack and 171 PS motor make ORR and highway family trips genuinely relaxed, with fast charging at a stop.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A 5-star Bharat NCAP rating plus captain seats and a sunroof make this one of the safest and most comfortable family MPVs on sale.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
It's a practicality-first family EV with a single, modest front motor; there's no performance angle here for a driver chasing pace or handling.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Price and size put it well outside what a first-time buyer typically considers — this is a second or third car for an established family.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Quiet, well-equipped captain seats and a smooth single-speed EV drivetrain suit chauffeur-driven family use well.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
It's set up for family road trips on tarmac, not off-road weekend use — front-wheel drive and road tyres only.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Kia Carens Clavis EV: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The side charging-port flap is an easily-overlooked panel for scratches, and the dual-pane sunroof surround on ER trims needs careful masking during correction work; the front bumper takes the usual highway stone-chip damage on family trips.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front film with a dedicated charging-port guard for daily use; AG1 Square full body for ER top-trim buyers who've paid the EV premium and want the whole car protected.
Coverage
Full front plus charging-port guard as standard; full-body upgrade recommended for ER top trims.

FAQs
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Questions Buyers Ask
Kia's trim ladder runs from ₹18,03,900 (HTK+, 42 kWh) to ₹24,99,900 (GTX+ ER / X-Line ER, 51.4 kWh) ex-showroom, as of 29 October 2026; a Battery-as-a-Service plan brings the entry chassis price down to ₹12.88 lakh plus ₹3.3/km for the battery.
ARAI MIDC figures are 404 km on the 42 kWh pack and 490 km on the 51.4 kWh Extended Range pack.
Yes — it carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, which the ICE Carens Clavis has not (yet) been tested for separately.
An August 2025 city survey showed roughly 1–2 months with no city reporting immediate availability; Kia was running benefits of up to ₹75,000 on the model in October 2026, suggesting demand has eased since launch — confirm the current figure with your dealer.
The eMax 7 is priced similarly and has BYD's Blade-battery reputation; the Clavis EV counters with a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, ADAS Level 2 and Kia's larger India service network. We'd lean toward the Clavis EV for after-sales confidence, the eMax 7 if outright range or price is the deciding factor.
If you can charge reliably at home or work, yes — the 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and a genuinely usable 490 km Extended Range claim justify the premium for many buyers. If charging access is uncertain, the diesel or turbo-petrol Clavis remains the simpler choice.
The side charging-port flap is the panel most often missed when protecting this car, and the front bumper takes highway stone-chip damage on family trips, so our standard package covers the front plus a charging-port guard. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan matched to your trim.
