The Auto Grid Review
Kia Seltos Review: Our Verdict
The new Seltos is the Kia we see most often from repeat buyers trading up from a Sonet or Venue, and it comes into the Kondapur bay almost always as a GTX or X-Line DCT in Imperial Blue or Gravity Gray. The bonnet and the sharp character line above the front wheel arch are the first to pick up ORR stone chips, and the big 18-inch crystal-cut alloys with neon callipers are a magnet for kerb rash on Hyderabad's broken outer lanes — owners usually ask about wheel protection the same visit they book paint film. The clear coat holds up well under our inspection lamps; dealer-delivery swirls are rarer here than on some rivals, but the flush door handles and the panoramic sunroof surround both need careful masking during any correction work.
What we like
- +5-star Bharat NCAP across every variant, with the highest ICE score recorded under the new protocol
- +Best-in-class ADAS suite (28 features) and a genuinely usable Head-Up Display
- +Three engines and five transmission types cover every kind of buyer
- +Autocar India's used-car study rates it best-in-segment for resale value
What we’d change
- –GTX(O)/X-Line(O) pricing edges into the next SUV class upward
- –Diesel waiting period runs longer than petrol in most cities
- –Alloy wheels and flush door handles both need extra care on rough roads
- –The naturally-aspirated petrol feels unremarkable next to the turbo
Is the Seltos right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The iVT petrol is relaxed in Hyderabad traffic and the 360° camera makes tight Kondapur car parks easy, though it's a size up from the Sonet to place in narrow lanes.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The turbo-petrol DCT or the diesel automatic are both genuinely composed at 100 km/h-plus on the ORR, with the Head-Up Display and adaptive cruise doing real work on long runs.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, six airbags as standard and a usefully sized rear bench make this one of the safest family SUVs we see in this price band.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
160 PS and 253 Nm from the turbo-petrol, paired with the 7-speed DCT and paddle shifters, give it genuine pace; the chassis is tidy without being outright sporty.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
It's a capable first SUV but priced a notch above true entry-level — most first-time buyers we see start with a Sonet or Syros instead.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Dual-zone climate control, a quiet cabin on the diesel automatic and decent rear space make the higher trims work for chauffeur-driven use, short of a dedicated three-row SUV.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Reasonable ground clearance and a composed ride handle broken roads to weekend destinations well, but it remains front-wheel drive only.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Kia Seltos: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The sharp character line above the front wheel arch and the lower bumper corners take the first ORR stone chips; the 18-inch crystal-cut alloys mark easily on broken Hyderabad kerbs, and the flush door handles need careful masking during any correction work.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front film with alloy-lip and arch protection for daily commuters; AG1 Square full body for GTX/X-Line buyers who want the panoramic-sunroof car to stay showroom-fresh.
Coverage
Full front as standard on every Seltos; add alloy guards and a full-body upgrade for the DCT and diesel-automatic top trims.

FAQs
Kia Seltos: Questions Buyers Ask
The official ex-showroom price of the base HTE petrol starts at ₹11,24,900 and the fully-loaded GTX(O)/X-Line(O) tops out at ₹21,56,900, as listed on Kia's own trim comparison as of 29 October 2026.
Yes. The 2026 Seltos scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating (31.70/32 Adult, 45/49 Child) in February 2026, the highest score recorded for an ICE vehicle under BNCAP to date, and it applies across all variants.
ARAI figures run from 15.6 kmpl on the turbo-petrol iMT to 19.4 kmpl on the diesel manual; the plain petrol returns 16.5 kmpl on both the manual and iVT automatic.
A dealer survey around launch found 4–6 weeks for petrol and turbo-petrol and 6–8 weeks for diesel, with shorter waits on Glacier White Pearl and Aurora Black Pearl. Confirm the current figure with your dealer, since Kia continues to run festive offers on the model.
Both are closely matched; the new Seltos counters the Creta with a higher-scoring 5-star Bharat NCAP result and a wider ADAS suite, while the Creta holds the edge in dealer network size and resale familiarity. We'd call it close enough that the decision usually comes down to styling preference and dealer experience.
The Hyryder's strong-hybrid option gives it a mileage edge in the city; the Seltos counters with a wider engine spread, a much larger ADAS feature count and its 5-star Bharat NCAP score. Pick the Hyryder for lowest running cost, the Seltos for equipment and safety-tech breadth.
Yes — the 2026 Seltos combines a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, a genuinely broad engine and transmission range, and best-in-class ADAS for its price band. The GTX(O)/X-Line(O) top end does edge into the next SUV class on price.
HTX iVT is the value sweet spot with the panoramic sunroof and a big touchscreen; step up to GTX/X-Line DCT if you want the turbo-petrol, paddle shifters and the full ADAS suite.
The front wheel-arch character line and bumper corners are the panels we repair most often after ORR use, and the big alloy wheels rash easily, so a full-front AG1 film with arch and wheel protection is our standard Seltos package. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan matched to your trim.
