The Auto Grid Review
Tata Nexon.ev Review: Our Verdict
The Nexon.ev is the EV we have filmed most at Kondapur, and its bodywork is the petrol Nexon’s with two differences that matter to us. The closed front panel is painted body colour, so stone chips that a petrol Nexon hides in its grille show up as white dots on an Ocean Blue EV. And the car is around 200 kg heavier on the same tyres, so the lower doors behind the front wheels and the sills pit faster than on the petrol. Paint is the same soft Nexon clear coat, and the dealer buff-and-ceramic before delivery leaves the same holograms we remove before filming. Empowered+ 45 in Pristine White or the Red #Dark is the typical visitor, often a corporate-lease car doing Hitec City to Shamshabad daily. The charge-port door on the nose is a wear point for scuffs.
What we like
- +489 km certified on the 45 kWh
- +5-star BNCAP
- +V2L, 7.2 kW AC option and a proven service network
- +Lowest running cost in the Tata SUV range
What we’d change
- –Closed nose panel shows chips
- –Heavier than the petrol — doors and sills pit
- –Soft clear coat with delivery swirls
- –Rear seat tight for three
Is the Nexon.ev right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Silent, instant torque, one-pedal regen and 190 mm clearance; this is the ideal Hyderabad commuter if you can charge at home.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
489 km certified means Bengaluru with one stop; cabin noise is low but wind noise rises past 100 km/h.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Six airbags, 5-star BNCAP, ISOFIX and a 350 L boot; it is compact for three in the back.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Quick off the line (0–100 in 8.9 s) but the chassis is comfort-tuned and the weight blunts cornering.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
From 12.5 lakh it is a bigger first-car cheque than a petrol Nexon, but running cost and resale on EVs have improved.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The rear seat is compact-SUV sized and the floor sits high over the battery; an executive should look at the Harrier.ev instead.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
190 mm clearance and V2L for a campsite, but front-drive only and range planning matters off the main highways.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Tata Nexon.ev: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
Painted closed nose panel and charge-port door chip and scuff first, then bonnet lip, lower doors and sills from the extra kerb weight; dealer-buff swirls on grey and blue cars.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with lower-door and sill strips for every Nexon.ev; AG1 Square full body for Empowered+ and Red #Dark cars; delivery swirls are corrected before the film goes on.
Coverage
Full front plus sills standard; full body recommended for editions.
