Sealion 7 Waiting Period
Typical across India: The Sealion 7 is imported as a CBU under the GSR 870(E) rule, capped at roughly 2,500 units a year; BYD used 88% of that quota on the Sealion 7 alone in 2025 (about 2,200 units), and dealers were sitting on a backlog of several hundred orders as of January 2026 because of this supply constraint rather than weak demand. (as of 28 Jan 2026)
electrive.com, 28 Jan 2026 — the same import-quota constraint applies to the Seal; no separate city-by-city waiting-period survey was found.

The Auto Grid Review
BYD Sealion 7 Review: Our Verdict
The Sealion 7 is the most capable BYD we service, and it is also the one where ground clearance stops being a worry — it sits higher than the Seal sedan it shares a platform with, so our installer bay sees far fewer underbody scrapes on this one. The sharply creased bonnet and the waterdrop side mirrors are the panels that chip and swirl first, and the 20-inch Wave Swing wheels pick up kerb rash in tight Hyderabad multi-storey parking faster than the Seal's smaller rims. The Performance trim's dual-motor AWD adds weight over the front axle, so we see slightly more stone damage on its bonnet than on the RWD Dynamic and Premium cars that make up most of our bookings.
What we like
- +5-star Euro NCAP rating with 11 airbags, the most of any BYD sold in India
- +Up to 567 km of claimed range on the Premium trim
- +Performance AWD's 523 PS and 4.4-second 0-100 km/h rival far pricier performance SUVs
- +Nappa leather cabin and a genuinely premium feature list across the range
What we’d change
- –Not yet tested by Bharat NCAP, only the 2025 Euro NCAP result applies
- –CBU import quota constraints have created months-long waits in peak demand
- –20-inch wheels pick up kerb rash readily in tight parking
- –₹41.90-55.90 lakh puts it against well-established German and Korean rivals on brand trust
Is the Sealion 7 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Comfortable and well-equipped, but its size and price are more than most pure city commuters need.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The Premium's 567 km claimed range and the car's refined, stable high-speed manners make it an excellent long-distance electric SUV.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
11 airbags, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and a genuinely spacious cabin make this one of the safer, more comfortable electric family SUVs available, Bharat NCAP pending.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The Performance trim's 523 PS, AWD grip and 4.4-second 0-100 km/h make it a genuinely exciting electric SUV to drive.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At ₹41.90-55.90 lakh this is a flagship purchase for an experienced buyer, not a first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The Nappa leather cabin, quiet AWD drivetrain and genuine rear space suit a chauffeured brief well.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Higher ground clearance than the Seal and AWD grip on the Performance trim help on broken roads, though this remains a road-biased crossover.
Paint Protection
PPF for the BYD Sealion 7: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The sharply creased bonnet and the waterdrop-shaped side mirrors are the first panels to chip and swirl; the 20-inch Wave Swing wheels pick up kerb rash readily in tight Hyderabad multi-storey parking, and the Performance trim's extra front-axle weight brings slightly more bonnet stone damage.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with mirror-cap protection as the baseline for every Sealion 7; full-body AG1 Square for Performance buyers given the car's flagship positioning and the AWD motor's extra weight up front.
Coverage
Full front and mirror caps standard; add alloy-wheel-lip film for the 20-inch wheels and full body for Performance trim cars.

FAQs
BYD Sealion 7: Questions Buyers Ask
The Sealion 7 is priced from ₹41.90 lakh (Dynamic) to ₹55.90 lakh (Performance) ex-showroom, per BYD India's own product page checked 31 October 2026.
It is one of the most complete performance electric SUVs sold in India — a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, 11 airbags, up to 567 km of claimed range and genuinely quick AWD performance on the Performance trim. The main caveats are the lack of a Bharat NCAP result yet and CBU import-quota waiting periods that have run to months in peak demand.
The Premium is the strongest all-rounder, with the longest claimed range at 567 km on RWD; step up to the Performance only if you specifically want the AWD system and the 523 PS output.
5 stars from Euro NCAP, tested in 2025 — 87% adult occupant, 93% child occupant and 76% vulnerable road user protection. It has not yet been tested by Bharat NCAP as of this run.
The Model Y offers Tesla's Supercharger network and OTA ecosystem; the Sealion 7 undercuts it by roughly ₹6-9 lakh, matches it on range and adds more airbags (11 vs up to 10), making it the stronger value pick for most buyers.
No — BYD's official India specifications list ventilated, heated Nappa leather seats on the Sealion 7, but no massage function, unlike some BYD Seal sedan variants.
Yes — its sharply creased bonnet and waterdrop mirrors chip and swirl first, and the 20-inch wheels pick up kerb rash in tight parking, so we run a full-front AG1 package with mirror caps on every Sealion 7.
Indicatively ₹43.00 lakh–₹58.19 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹41.90 lakh–₹55.90 lakh (Delhi, 31 Oct 2026) plus Telangana life tax (0% (EV exemption)), first-year insurance and registration. EVs pay no road tax or registration fee in Telangana until 31 December 2026. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
BYD's claimed figures: Dynamic (RWD) — 0-100 km/h in 7.3s; Premium (RWD) — 0-100 km/h in 6.7s; Performance (AWD) — 542 km (NEDC). Real-world figures depend on traffic, load and driving style.
The top variant is the Performance (Electric, Single-speed automatic, dual-motor AWD) at ₹55.90 lakh ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the Dynamic (Electric, Single-speed automatic, RWD) at ₹41.90 lakh. 3 variants in all, as of 31 Oct 2026.
Sealion 7: Performance electric SUV, ₹41.90 lakh – ₹55.90 lakh ex-showroom, Electric, Auto Grid rating 4.3/5. XEV 9e: Premium electric coupé-SUV, ₹21.90 lakh – ₹30.50 lakh ex-showroom, Electric, rated 4.6/5. See the Mahindra XEV 9e page for its full variant list and our verdict.
