Seal Waiting Period
Typical across India: The Seal is imported as a CBU under the GSR 870(E) rule, capped at roughly 2,500 units a year; dealers were sitting on a backlog of several hundred orders as of January 2026 because of this supply constraint rather than weak demand. (as of 28 Jan 2026)
electrive.com, 28 Jan 2026 — the same constraint applies to the Sealion 7; no separate Seal-specific city-by-city waiting-period survey was found.

The Auto Grid Review
BYD Seal Review: Our Verdict
The Seal is the lowest, widest BYD we see, and its 145 mm ground clearance is the first thing we flag to every owner before they drive it out of our bay — the front splitter and the underfloor battery pack's edge are tight against speed breakers on Hyderabad's older colonies. The fastback roofline and the flush electric door handles are elegant but fragile-feeling details that pick up swirl marks and small chips fast; Cosmos Black and Arctic Blue show this most under our lamps. The Performance variant's DiSus-C adaptive dampers do not change how we approach the paint, but the extra weight of the AWD motor up front means the bonnet and front fender take slightly more stone damage on the ORR than the RWD Dynamic.
What we like
- +5-star Euro NCAP rating with 9 airbags across the range
- +Up to 650 km of claimed range on the Premium's 82.56 kWh battery
- +Performance trim's 530 PS and sub-4-second 0-100 km/h rival far pricier sedans
- +Distinctive, well-finished cabin with genuine flagship presence
What we’d change
- –145 mm ground clearance is tight for broken Indian roads and speed breakers
- –Not yet tested by Bharat NCAP, only the 2023 Euro NCAP result applies
- –CBU import quota means waiting periods can run to months in peak demand
- –Flush door handles and the fastback roofline swirl and chip more readily than a typical sedan
Is the Seal right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Comfortable and quiet, but the low ground clearance makes every speed breaker and unmarked pothole a concern in daily Hyderabad traffic.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The Premium's 650 km claimed range and the car's aerodynamic, stable high-speed manners make it one of the best long-distance EVs sold in India today.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
5-star Euro NCAP and 9 airbags are reassuring, but the low roofline and 145 mm clearance make it less practical than an SUV for family duty.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The Performance's 530 PS, AWD grip and adaptive DiSus-C dampers make this a genuinely thrilling electric sedan to drive.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At ₹41.50-53.65 lakh this is a flagship purchase, not a first car for most Indian buyers.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The cabin finish, rear space and near-silent Performance drivetrain suit a chauffeured brief well, though the low ground clearance needs a careful driver over speed breakers.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Low ground clearance and a sedan body rule this out for anything beyond smooth tarmac.
Paint Protection
PPF for the BYD Seal: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The front splitter and the underfloor battery edge are tight against speed breakers on Hyderabad's older colonies; the fastback roofline and flush electric door handles pick up swirl marks and small chips faster than a conventional sedan, especially in Cosmos Black and Arctic Blue.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with a front-splitter guard as the baseline for every Seal; full-body AG1 Square for Performance buyers given the car's flagship positioning and the AWD motor's extra front-end weight.
Coverage
Full front and splitter guard standard; add the door-handle cavities and rear quarter panels for cars kept outdoors daily.

FAQs
BYD Seal: Questions Buyers Ask
The Seal is priced from ₹41.50 lakh (Dynamic) to ₹53.65 lakh (Performance) ex-showroom, reflecting BYD's July 2026 1-2% portfolio-wide price revision over the original MY2025 launch prices.
As a driving proposition, yes — a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, up to 650 km of claimed range and genuinely strong performance on the Performance trim make it one of the most complete electric sedans sold in India. The main caveats are its low 145 mm ground clearance and CBU import-quota waiting periods.
The Premium is the sweet spot — it adds the larger 82.56 kWh battery and its 650 km claimed range over the Dynamic for a meaningful but not Performance-level price jump; choose the Performance only if you specifically want AWD and the 530 PS output.
5 stars from Euro NCAP, tested in 2023. The Seal has not yet been tested by Bharat NCAP as of this run.
They share a platform and battery options. The Seal is the lower, sleeker sedan with a marginally longer claimed range on its Premium trim; the Sealion 7 is the SUV body with higher ground clearance and more airbags (11 vs 9), better suited to Indian roads.
Yes — it has been on sale since March 2024, currently in Dynamic, Premium and Performance trims from ₹41.50 lakh to ₹53.65 lakh ex-showroom.
BYD's official India specifications for the Seal do not list a dedicated auto-park feature; it gets a 360-degree-camera-assisted parking display and front/rear sensors rather than a self-parking function.
Not directly — Tesla does not sell the Model 3 in India as of this run, only the Model Y SUV. The Seal's closest India rivals are its own platform-mate the Sealion 7 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The Premium offers the best balance of range (650 km claimed) and price; choose the Performance only if you specifically want the AWD system and the 530 PS output, since it carries a meaningful price jump over the Premium.
Yes — its low front splitter is exposed to speed breakers and its flush door handles swirl readily, so we treat every Seal as a full-front AG1 job at minimum, with a splitter guard included.
Indicatively ₹42.59 lakh–₹55.85 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹41.50 lakh–₹53.65 lakh (Delhi, 17 Oct 2026) plus Telangana life tax (0% (EV exemption)), first-year insurance and registration. EVs pay no road tax or registration fee in Telangana until 31 December 2026. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.

The top variant is the Performance (Electric, Single-speed automatic, dual-motor AWD) at ₹53.65 lakh ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the Dynamic (Electric, Single-speed automatic, RWD) at ₹41.50 lakh. 3 variants in all, as of 17 Oct 2026.
