The Auto Grid Review
Honda Amaze Review: Our Verdict
The Amaze is the budget Honda that walks into our Kondapur bay most often for a first-car owner's very first PPF job, and the car rewards the care. The short front overhang and the simple, flat bonnet mean stone chips concentrate hard on the bumper's lower lip and the leading edge of the bonnet on Hyderabad's ring-road stretches. Honda's paint here is thinner than on the City, and we see swirl marks on Radiant Red and Obsidian Blue cars within the first few dealer-prep washes if a customer skips correction. The ZX's lane-watch camera housing on the mirror is a spot owners forget to ask us to protect and it chips easily. It is a straightforward car to film — tall, simple panels and no complex creases — and remains the only sub-4m sedan we see with genuine ADAS, which first-time buyers specifically ask about.
What we like
- +Only sub-4m sedan with Bharat NCAP's 5-star adult rating
- +Segment's most affordable ADAS, standard from the ZX grade
- +Refined, revvy engine for a budget sedan and a genuinely smooth CVT
- +Strong resale and the lowest service costs in Honda's India range
What we’d change
- –No factory CNG option, unlike the Dzire and Aura
- –No diesel, and no 7-speed CVT paddle shifters like the City gets
- –Ground clearance and fuel-tank-adjacent spec gaps on Honda's own sheets
- –Thinner clear coat than the City shows swirls faster without correction
Is the Amaze right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Light controls, a tight turning circle and a smooth CVT make it an easy daily driver through Hyderabad's traffic, and the 19.46 kmpl CVT figure holds up well in real stop-go use.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Stable enough on the ORR but the smaller engine and sedan proportions mean it's outpaced by the City or Verna on long expressway stretches.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
The 5-star Bharat NCAP adult score and ISOFIX anchors make it a genuinely safe pick for a young family's first sedan, and the 416-litre boot covers a weekend's luggage.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
90 PS and a CVT-first lineup leave little for a driver who wants engagement; the Amaze is tuned for ease, not for corners.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Low running costs, Honda's resale strength and the segment's only real ADAS make this the obvious pick for a first-time buyer on a tight budget.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear seat space is adequate but compact-sedan sized; an executive wanting to be driven will outgrow the Amaze quickly.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
No published ground clearance figure and road-biased tyres mean this is a city and highway car, not one built for broken ghat roads.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Honda Amaze: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The short front overhang concentrates stone chips on the bumper's lower lip and the bonnet's leading edge; the thinner clear coat shows dealer-prep swirls fast on Radiant Red and Obsidian Blue cars, and the VX/ZX LaneWatch mirror housing chips easily if left unprotected.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front film with a mirror-cap wrap for every Amaze that comes in — the thinner factory clear coat makes correction-before-film a near-default step, not an upsell.
Coverage
Full front standard; add the door-edge and mirror-cap guards for ZX owners who use the LaneWatch camera daily on narrow Hyderabad streets.

FAQs
Honda Amaze: Questions Buyers Ask
Honda's price checker lists the current 3rd-generation Amaze from ₹7.65 lakh (V MT) to ₹10.00 lakh (ZX CVT) ex-showroom Delhi, current on hondacarindia.com as of 29 October 2026.
ARAI certifies the 1.2L i-VTEC petrol at 18.65 kmpl with the 5-speed manual and 19.46 kmpl with the CVT, as published in Honda's official Amaze brochure.
Yes — the 3rd-generation Amaze scored 5 stars for Adult Occupant Protection (28.33/32) and 4 stars for Child Occupant Protection (40.81/49) in November 2025, applicable across all six variants (bncap.in).
Honda SENSING (Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist) is standard on the ZX grade only, in both MT and CVT, making it the most affordable ADAS-equipped car on sale in India.
Yes, for its price band — it is the only sub-4m sedan with a 5-star Bharat NCAP adult rating and the segment's most affordable ADAS, backed by Honda's strong resale value and dealer network. Its main trade-offs are no diesel and no CNG option.
The Dzire offers a factory CNG option the Amaze lacks, while the Amaze counters with a 5-star Bharat NCAP adult score and standard ADAS from the ZX grade. Choose the Dzire for running costs, the Amaze for safety kit and refinement.
If boot space and a traditional sedan shape matter, yes — the Amaze's 416-litre boot and Bharat NCAP rating beat most hatchbacks at a similar price, though the Baleno and Fronx offer more cabin flexibility for the same money.
Its front bumper and bonnet edge take the first stone chips, and the factory clear coat is thinner than the City's, so we recommend a full-front AG1 film with paint correction before filming on every Amaze. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan.
