The Auto Grid Review
Škoda Kylaq Review: Our Verdict
The Kylaq has become a regular in our bay since its first-year owners started coming in for their service-anniversary film jobs, and it holds up well under our lamps for a sub-4m SUV. The glossy black front grille and the slim LED headlight housings are the first things to pick up stone chips on Hyderabad's outer roads, and the 189 mm ground clearance means owners genuinely use it on rougher lanes, so the rocker panels sand-blast more than on a Brezza or Venue we see in the same week. Tornado Red cars show the least swirl marks of any colour in the range, which says something about how Škoda tuned this particular shade's clear coat. The Sportline's dual-tone floating roof is a careful masking job during correction, but otherwise this is a straightforward, satisfying car to film.
What we like
- +5-star Bharat NCAP rating, among the best in the sub-4m SUV segment
- +Class-leading 360-litre boot for the segment
- +Genuinely strong turbo-petrol performance and a proper torque-converter automatic
- +European ride quality and build feel at a mainstream price
What we’d change
- –Only one engine on offer, with no diesel or CNG option
- –No current, dated October 2026 waiting-period figure found
- –Rear-seat space trails the Nexon and Venue slightly
- –Fewer dealer touchpoints than Tata or Hyundai across smaller towns
Is the Kylaq right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Light controls, a tight turning circle and the smooth torque-converter automatic make it one of the easiest sub-4m SUVs to drive daily through Hyderabad traffic.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The 1.0 TSI's 178 Nm and a settled European-tuned chassis make it more composed at expressway speeds than most rivals in this segment.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A genuine 5-star Bharat NCAP score and the segment's biggest boot make it a strong, safe family choice despite the smaller rear seat.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The turbo-petrol's mid-range punch and the Sportline's sharper styling give it more character than most sub-4m SUV rivals.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Safe, easy to drive and well-built, though European after-sales pricing runs a touch higher than a Nexon or Venue over ownership.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Compact rear-seat space and a sub-4m footprint mean this isn't the SUV for a chauffeur-driven executive.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
189 mm of ground clearance and a genuinely usable 360-litre boot make it one of the more capable sub-4m SUVs for weekend trips off the highway.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Škoda Kylaq: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The glossy black front grille and slim LED headlight housings pick up stone chips first on Hyderabad's outer roads; the rocker panels sand-blast on owners who use the 189 mm clearance off paved roads, and the Sportline's dual-tone roof needs careful masking at the join during correction.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front film with rocker-panel guards for owners who drive it on rougher lanes; AG1 Square full body for Sportline and Prestige+ cars where the dual-tone styling is the point.
Coverage
Full front and rocker panels standard; add a roof-edge strip for dual-tone Sportline cars.

Yes — it is the only sub-4m SUV with a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and the segment's biggest boot, backed by European build quality. The main trade-off is a smaller dealer network than Tata or Hyundai in smaller towns.
The Kylaq is a sub-4m SUV with a single 1.0 TSI engine and a lower starting price; the Kushaq is a size class larger with an optional 1.5 TSI and more premium features. Pick the Kylaq for city use and budget, the Kushaq for size and highway power.
The Kylaq's 5-star Bharat NCAP score (30.88/32 adult) sits among the strongest in the sub-4m SUV segment; buyers should compare it against the specific Nexon or Sonet variant and model year being considered, since NCAP scores can change across updates.
Its front grille and headlight housings take the first stone chips, and the rocker panels sand-blast on owners who use its 189 mm clearance off paved roads, so a full-front AG1 film with rocker guards is our standard recommendation. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a Kylaq-specific plan.
