The Auto Grid Review
Škoda Kodiaq Review: Our Verdict
The Kodiaq is a rare but memorable sight in our bay, and the ones we do see — mostly Sportline and Selection L&K — get full-body treatment without debate given what they cost. The crystalline headlight light-strip and the big front bumper are the first things to show stone-chip damage on long highway runs to the coast, and Magic Black cars reveal polish swirls under our lamps faster than Moon White. The 18-inch alloys are a frequent kerb-rash repair given the Kodiaq's width in multi-level parking. We haven't had an RS through yet — only 50 units exist nationally and most owners we've spoken to are being extremely careful with them — but based on the standard car's panels, we'd expect the same front-end vulnerability, amplified by the RS's larger front splitter.
What we like
- +Standard 4x4 across the range, genuinely rare at this price point
- +Now gets proper Level 2 ADAS on Sportline and Selection L&K
- +Spacious, genuinely premium cabin with class-leading tech
- +The RS variant brings real performance credibility to the nameplate
What we’d change
- –India-spec car not independently tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP
- –No current, dated October 2026 waiting-period figure found
- –Kodiaq RS's mileage figure is not published
- –Service and parts costs are high even by premium-SUV standards
Is the Kodiaq right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Capable but large and heavy for daily city use; most owners we see use it more for weekend and highway duty than the daily school run.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
204 PS, standard 4x4 and a genuinely refined DSG make it one of the most composed highway SUVs in India at any price.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A spacious 7-seat cabin and a long feature list make it a strong family choice, though the lack of an India-specific NCAP score is worth noting.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The standard car is genuinely engaging to drive for its size, and the 265 PS RS variant is a rare, serious performance SUV for Indian buyers who can get one.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At ₹37 lakh and up, this is firmly a second or third car for an established household, not a first-car choice.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
A genuinely premium cabin, massage seats on the top trims and a quiet, composed ride make it an excellent chauffeur-driven choice.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Standard 4x4 and 155 mm ground clearance make it one of the more capable large SUVs for weekend trips off the highway, within the limits of road-biased tyres.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Škoda Kodiaq: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The crystalline headlight light-strip and the large front bumper take the most stone-chip damage on long highway runs; dark colours like Magic Black show polish swirls fastest, and the 18-inch alloys pick up kerb rash in multi-level parking given the car's width.
Our recommendation
AG1 Square full body from day one for every Kodiaq we see — the price point and the car's rarity mean owners are protective from the first week, and that's the right instinct.
Coverage
Full body standard; alloy-rim film and a front-splitter-specific cut for RS owners given its larger aero components.
