Discovery Sport Waiting Period
Typical across India: No dedicated India dealer waiting-period survey was found. Land Rover India lists the Discovery Sport as orderable, but JLR has confirmed to Autocar UK that global Discovery Sport production ends in December 2026, with factory orders already stopped in several European markets — so remaining India stock is better read as run-out inventory than a queue. Confirm live stock and colour availability with your dealer before booking. (as of 27 Jul 2026)
Use the wait well: book your AG1 PPF slot for delivery week so the film goes on before the first stone chip. WhatsApp your expected delivery date.
The Auto Grid Review
Land Rover Discovery Sport Review: Our Verdict
The Discovery Sport is the Land Rover we see least often at the Kondapur bay — this is a low-volume, CBU-adjacent, locally-assembled niche car, not a volume seller, and with JLR confirming the model's production ends worldwide in December 2026, what little stock dealers have left in India is the car's last chapter rather than a fresh start. The two colours we have actually filmed are Fuji White and Santorini Black; the big flat bonnet and the Gloss Black hexagon grille surround are the first places that pick up stone chips on the ORR, while the lower doors behind the front wheels sand-blast quickly on Shamshabad's broken service roads. The Gloss Black sills and wheel-arch cladding hide minor scuffs well, but the painted skid plates do not, and we always flag this to owners before they drive it off the ramp. It is a straightforward car to correct — simple, slab-sided panels with no complex creases — and because buyers here are paying Land Rover badge money for what is, mechanically, the smallest SUV in the range, they tend to want the fuller AG1 coverage rather than a front-only package.
What we like
- +247 PS petrol and 201 PS diesel are both genuinely quick and come with proper AWD and Terrain Response
- +Locally assembled, so it undercuts every other Land Rover in India on price
- +Flexible 5+2 seating with a genuinely usable boot when the third row is folded
- +5-star Euro NCAP rating (2022 retest) still valid through 2028
What we’d change
- –JLR has confirmed global production ends in December 2026 — no confirmed direct replacement exists
- –Only one trim and no India ARAI mileage figure published by Land Rover itself
- –Third row is strictly for children, not adults
- –Low sales volume means patchy parts and service turnaround outside major cities
Is the Discovery Sport right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The petrol P250 is smooth enough in Hyderabad traffic and the turning radius is tight for its size, but this is an expensive, image-heavy way to do a daily commute.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The D200 diesel's 430 Nm and the 9-speed automatic make it an easy, composed cruiser on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru stretch, with Terrain Response adding confidence in the monsoon.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A 5-star Euro NCAP score and ISOFIX mounts tick the safety box, and the optional third row is handy for a school run with extra kids, but adults will find row three unusable on longer trips.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
This chassis is set up for comfort and off-road composure, not cornering; buyers chasing driving thrills in this price band should look at a German rival instead.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Purchase price, insurance and running costs rule this out as a sensible first car, before even considering Land Rover's patchy service reputation in smaller cities.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear space is adequate rather than generous, and with the nameplate winding down globally, executives wanting long-term Land Rover badge value usually look at the Velar or Range Rover Sport instead.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Standard AWD, Hill Descent Control and genuine Terrain Response modes make this the most capable car in its price bracket on a monsoon ghat road or a dirt track to a resort.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Land Rover Discovery Sport: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The bonnet and front bumper take the first stone chips on the ORR; the Gloss Black hexagon grille surround and sills show scratches more readily than the body colour around them; the lower doors behind the front wheels sand-blast on Hyderabad's broken service roads, and the painted skid plates mark up faster than the cladding right next to them.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front coverage with the grille surround, sills and skid plates wrapped as standard, since these are the panels we repair most often on the few Discovery Sports that come through our bay; full-body coverage for owners keeping the car long-term given how hard replacement panels are getting to source as the model winds down.
Coverage
Full front, grille surround, sills and skid plates as the baseline; full body for owners planning to keep the car past the end of its production run.

FAQs
Land Rover Discovery Sport: Questions Buyers Ask
Land Rover India prices the Discovery Sport Dynamic SE at ₹63.37 lakh ex-showroom for both the petrol and diesel versions, as of 4 November 2026 (Autocar India, updated 28 October 2026). On-road price in Delhi works out to roughly ₹73.8–75.4 lakh depending on fuel type, after registration, road tax and insurance.
Globally, yes — JLR confirmed to Autocar UK in July 2026 that Discovery Sport production ends in December 2026 after an 11-year run, with factory orders already stopped in several European markets. No official word from Land Rover India has set a local discontinuation date, and the model is still listed as orderable on landrover.in, but we'd treat remaining India stock as run-out inventory rather than assume long-term availability.
Both cost exactly the same ex-showroom, so it comes down to use: the 247 PS P250 petrol is the smoother, quicker-feeling engine for mostly city driving, while the 201 PS D200 diesel's 430 Nm makes it the easier long-distance and highway choice, with marginally better running costs per kilometre.
It's a 5-seater as standard, with an optional third row that brings it to 7. The extra two seats fold flat when not needed and are best suited to children on shorter trips, not adults.
Yes — Euro NCAP re-tested the Discovery Sport in December 2022 (on the R-Dynamic/Urban Edition diesel 4x4) and awarded a 5-star rating, valid through 2028. There is no separate Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP test for the India car, as it's a low-volume model outside both programmes' usual testing pool.
Land Rover India's current Discovery Sport has an unladen ground clearance of 167 mm, per Autocar India and Hindustan Times Auto's spec pages — plus standard all-wheel drive and Terrain Response modes that help it cope with broken roads and light off-roading better than the clearance figure alone suggests.
It's a comfortable, genuinely capable all-wheel-drive SUV with a strong 5-star Euro NCAP score, and most owner complaints we hear are about service turnaround and parts availability rather than the car itself falling apart. Honest caveat: with global production ending in December 2026 and no confirmed replacement, we'd weigh long-term parts and resale support into the decision as much as the driving experience.
Yes — the bonnet, grille surround and the lower doors behind the front wheels take the first chips and scuffs on ORR and broken service roads, so a full-front AG1 install with the sills and skid plates covered is our standard recommendation for this car. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan suited to your colour.
Indicatively ₹76.42 lakh–₹79.27 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹63.37 lakh (Delhi, 4 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
Land Rover's claimed figures: 2.0L Ingenium P250 turbo-petrol MHEV — Land Rover India does not publish an ARAI figure on its own site; third-party spec aggregators (CarWale, CarBike360) cite around 10–13 kmpl for the petrol.; 2.0L Ingenium D200 turbo-diesel MHEV — Land Rover India does not publish an ARAI figure on its own site; third-party aggregators cite roughly 13 kmpl claimed for the diesel.. Real-world figures depend on traffic, load and driving style.
Discovery Sport: Compact premium SUV, ₹63.37 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol/Diesel, Auto Grid rating 3.6/5. Evoque: Compact luxury SUV, ₹64.86 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol/Diesel, rated 3.8/5. See the Range Rover Evoque page for its full variant list and our verdict.
