The Auto Grid Review
Volvo XC60 Review: Our Verdict
The XC60 is the Volvo we see most often in Hyderabad, and its estate-like, low-drama styling is one of the easiest luxury SUVs in our bay to film — long, flat doors with none of the aggressive creases German rivals favour. Where it does need care is the diamond-cut alloy finish, which scuffs visibly on the unmarked speed breakers around Jubilee Hills, and the bright-aluminium roof rails, which mark easily during any masking work. Volvo's locally-assembled build quality has been consistently tight across the units we've worked on — fewer panel-gap surprises than we'd expect at this price, which says something about the Hoskote plant's quality control.
What we like
- +Locally assembled, which keeps pricing sharper than a CBU-import rival
- +Pilot Assist and a comprehensive ADAS suite as standard
- +Volvo's safety-first engineering ethos and a composed, comfortable ride
- +Bowers & Wilkins audio and a genuinely upmarket cabin
What we’d change
- –The current facelifted mild-hybrid has no up-to-date Euro NCAP or Bharat NCAP rating — its old 5-star result (2017) has since expired and applied to earlier diesel/plug-in variants
- –176mm ground clearance is on the lower side for broken Hyderabad roads
- –No dated India waiting-period survey exists yet
- –Single B5 mild-hybrid powertrain — no diesel or plug-in hybrid option any more
Is the XC60 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Smooth, torquey and easy to place in traffic, though the lower ground clearance asks for some care over broken patches.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise and a genuinely quiet, settled ride make the XC60 one of the best ORR cruisers in its class.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Volvo's safety reputation and a sensible 483L boot make this an easy family pick, though the current car's own crash-test rating is unconfirmed.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Composed but not engaging — the XC60 is tuned for comfort and safety over outright dynamics.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At over ₹70 lakh, with running and insurance costs to match, this isn't anyone's realistic first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
A quiet, well-isolated cabin and genuine comfort make it a solid executive choice, just short of the XC90's rear-seat space.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
AWD helps in light conditions, but 176mm clearance and road-biased tyres limit genuine off-road ambition.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Volvo XC60: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The flat bonnet and front bumper take highway stone chips first, and the diamond-cut alloy wheels and bright-aluminium roof rails scuff and mark easily.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with lower-door coverage for most owners; full body for buyers who want the finish fully protected from day one.
Coverage
Full front standard; add lower doors, wheel protection and roof-rail coverage for highway-heavy use.

FAQs
Volvo XC60: Questions Buyers Ask
Volvo prices the XC60 B5 AWD Mild Hybrid from ₹70.90 lakh ex-showroom as of November 2026, up from a prior MY2026 figure of ₹69.60 lakh.
Yes. The XC60 is assembled at Volvo's Hoskote plant near Bengaluru, which has helped keep its pricing more competitive than fully-imported rivals.
An earlier XC60 generation held a 5-star Euro NCAP rating from 2017, but that result has since expired under Euro NCAP's own protocol and covered different (diesel/plug-in hybrid) powertrains. No up-to-date Euro NCAP or Bharat NCAP rating exists for the current B5 mild-hybrid facelift.
Volvo claims a combined WLTP fuel consumption of 7.75 l/100km (roughly 12.9 km/l) for the B5 mild-hybrid petrol.
The XC60 is the smaller, sharper-handling mid-size SUV at a lower price; the XC90 adds a third row and genuine 7-seat practicality for ₹28 lakh more. Choose by seating need rather than badge — both share the same 250hp mild-hybrid powertrain.
No — the XC60 is a strict 5-seater. Buyers who need a third row should look at the XC90, which seats seven.
Its flat bonnet and front bumper take highway chips readily, and the diamond-cut alloys mark easily, so we recommend at least a full-front AG1 film with wheel protection.
Indicatively ₹85.49 lakh–₹88.69 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹70.90 lakh (Delhi, 2 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
XC60: Mid-size luxury SUV, ₹70.90 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol (Mild Hybrid, 48V), Auto Grid rating 4.2/5. Land Cruiser 300: Luxury ladder-frame flagship SUV, ₹2.18 crore – ₹2.25 crore ex-showroom, Diesel, rated 4.6/5. See the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 page for its full variant list and our verdict.
Ground clearance 176 mm, boot space 483 litres, 5 seats, length 4708 mm (Volvo official specification).
