The Auto Grid Review
Lexus RX Review: Our Verdict
The RX is the Lexus SUV Hyderabad's old-money buyers gravitate to over a German badge, and in our bay that shows up as a particular fussiness about the finish staying factory-fresh. The spindle-body's broad flat doors and the sweeping bonnet are straightforward to film, but the F SPORT+'s piano-black accents and 21-inch wheels show every stone chip and kerb mark instantly against the gloss. We see noticeably fewer dealer-prep swirls on Lexus deliveries than on comparable German SUVs, which tells its own story about how these cars are handled before they reach the customer — but a ₹90 lakh-plus SUV is still protected fully, not partially, by every owner who asks us.
What we like
- +Genuine choice between an efficient 350h hybrid and a quick, DIRECT4-equipped 500h F SPORT+
- +612L boot and a spacious, well-isolated cabin
- +Lexus's reputation for long-term dependability over German rivals
- +A dated India waiting-period figure exists (1-2 months) — rare for a Lexus model
What we’d change
- –No Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP rating for the India-spec RX
- –500h F SPORT+ pricing edges past ₹1.2 crore with Nano-E extras
- –Dealer network in Telangana is thin next to BMW/Mercedes/Audi
- –195mm clearance and road-biased 21-inch wheels are unforgiving on broken roads
Is the RX right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
A near-5-metre luxury SUV is composed but oversized for daily city driving alone; the hybrid's smoothness helps in traffic.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Dynamic radar cruise, lane-tracing assist and the 500h's DIRECT4 poise make this an excellent, confident ORR cruiser.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Space, comfort and a 612L boot are all there, though the absence of a published crash-test score is a genuine gap next to tested German rivals.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The 500h F SPORT+'s 371hp and Dynamic Rear Steering give it real pace and agility for a hybrid SUV, well ahead of the 350h.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At ₹90 lakh and up, insurance and running costs alone rule the RX out as anyone's first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
A quiet, spacious rear seat, strong brand cachet and genuine comfort make the RX a natural chauffeur-driven choice.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
AWD helps in light conditions, but 195mm clearance and road-biased tyres aren't built for genuine off-road use.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Lexus RX: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The sweeping bonnet and front bumper take highway stone chips first, and the F SPORT+'s piano-black trim and 21-inch wheels show every chip and kerb mark instantly against the gloss finish.
Our recommendation
AG1 Square full body is our standard recommendation at this price point, with dedicated wheel and lower-door protection for F SPORT+ owners who drive it harder.
Coverage
Full body standard; add wheel protection film and reinforced lower-door coverage for F SPORT+ cars.

Lexus RX: Questions Buyers Ask
Lexus prices the RX from ₹89.99 lakh (350h Exquisite) to ₹1.09 crore (500h F SPORT+) ex-showroom, rising to ₹1.20 crore with the Nano-E package — figures as of November 2026.
Autocar India's RX FAQ page (last updated 8 October 2026) states a typical wait of 1 to 2 months, varying by variant and dealer stock.
Yes. The RX 500h F SPORT+'s turbo-hybrid DIRECT4 powertrain makes 371hp combined versus the 350h's roughly 250hp, with Dynamic Rear Steering for extra agility.
No Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP rating has been published for the India-spec RX; it is a low-volume CBU import that has not been independently tested here.
The RX relies on a conventional, well-tuned suspension rather than an air setup; Lexus reserves air suspension for the LM and LX in its India line-up.
Given the cost of its piano-black trim and 21-inch wheels, we recommend a full-body AG1 Square film with added wheel protection, especially on the F SPORT+.
