The Auto Grid Review
Lexus LX Review: Our Verdict
The LX is the rarest Lexus to cross our bay, and when it does, it's almost always a pre-delivery job for a dealer rather than a correction on a used car — buyers at this price protect it from day one. Its 5.1-metre body-on-frame construction means a lot of flat, easy-to-film panel, but the Overtrail's matte-grey wheels and black cladding need careful masking, and the tri-beam LED headlight units are expensive enough that we treat any work near them with extra care. The air-bladder massage seats and 25-speaker Mark Levinson system tell you everything about who buys this — not a car bought to be seen, but one bought to never show a mark.
What we like
- +700 Nm diesel V6 with genuine 4x4 hardware — locking diffs front and rear, not badge-deep capability
- +Flagship-level cabin: massage seats, 25-speaker Mark Levinson, 4-zone climate
- +Lexus's reliability reputation at a price point where German rivals see more electrical niggles
- +Overtrail grade adds real off-road intent, not just styling
What we’d change
- –No published Global NCAP, Bharat NCAP, ADAC or Euro NCAP rating for the LX
- –No official ARAI mileage figure; owners report 7-8 kmpl in real-world use
- –Extremely limited dealer footprint — service runs are planned events outside major metros
- –No dated India waiting-period survey exists yet
Is the LX right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
A 5.1-metre, body-on-frame flagship SUV is wasted and unwieldy on a daily city commute.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
700 Nm, a 10-speed automatic and genuine cabin isolation make the LX an outstanding, effortless long-distance cruiser.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Space and comfort are exceptional, but the total absence of any independent crash-test result is a real gap for safety-conscious families at this price.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
It's a comfort- and capability-focused flagship, not a car built to reward a keen driver on a twisty road.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At ₹2.81 crore and up, with running costs to match its size, this is nobody's realistic first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Massage seats, 4-zone climate and a genuinely quiet cabin make the LX one of the most convincing chauffeur-driven flagships on sale.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Front and rear locking diffs, 210mm clearance and the Overtrail's off-road tyres mean this one can go properly off tarmac, not just look like it can.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Lexus LX: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The tall front bumper and tri-beam LED headlight units take the first highway stone chips and are expensive to replace, while the Overtrail's matte-grey wheels and black cladding scuff visibly if its off-road use is genuine.
Our recommendation
AG1 Square full body is the only sensible recommendation at this price point, with reinforced lower-door, wheel-arch and headlight-surround coverage for Overtrail owners.
Coverage
Full body standard; add underbody, wheel-arch and headlight protection for genuine off-road or rural-route use.

FAQs
Lexus LX: Questions Buyers Ask
Lexus prices the LX 500d from ₹2.81 crore (Urban) to ₹2.93 crore (Overtrail) ex-showroom, as of late October 2026.
Lexus has not published an official ARAI mileage figure for the LX 500d; owners commonly report 7-8 kmpl in real-world driving, which should be treated as an unofficial estimate, not a company claim.
Yes. Every LX 500d gets full-time AWD with a centre locking differential, and the Overtrail grade adds front and rear locking differentials plus specialised off-road tyres.
No Global NCAP, Bharat NCAP or Euro NCAP result has been published for the LX; it is an extremely low-volume CBU import that has not been independently crash tested.
The LX shares its platform and 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel V6 with the Land Cruiser 300, but adds Lexus-level cabin materials, a 25-speaker Mark Levinson system and front-seat massage not offered on the Toyota.
Given the cost of its tri-beam LED headlights and the genuine off-road use some Overtrail owners put it to, we recommend a full-body AG1 Square film with reinforced underbody and wheel-arch coverage.
Indicatively ₹3.39 crore–₹3.67 crore on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹2.81 crore–₹2.93 crore (Delhi, 31 Oct 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
The top variant is the 500d Overtrail (Diesel, 10-speed AT) at ₹2.93 crore ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the 500d Urban (Diesel, 10-speed AT) at ₹2.81 crore. 2 variants in all, as of 31 Oct 2026.
Ground clearance 210 mm, boot space 174 litres, 5 seats, length 5100 mm (Lexus official specification).
