The Auto Grid Review
Volvo EX30 Review: Our Verdict
The EX30 is the Volvo we've started seeing from a newer, younger buyer — someone choosing the badge and the safety record over a bigger battery. Its compact proportions and short overhangs make it one of the easiest cars we film in a day, and the sustainable, leather-free cabin means our focus stays entirely on the exterior — there's no leather trim to worry about marking during the job. The fixed panoramic roof's edge seal is the one area we mask carefully; everything else about this car is refreshingly simple to protect. For an EV at this price, the finish quality feels a step above what we see on similarly-priced Chinese-brand electrics.
What we like
- +5-star Euro NCAP rating, current and directly relevant to the India-spec car
- +480km WLTP range comfortably covers most India use cases
- +Sustainable, leather-free cabin with a genuinely upmarket feel
- +Volvo's comprehensive ADAS suite as standard, unusual at this price
What we’d change
- –Single RWD variant only — no AWD option
- –No dated India waiting-period survey exists yet
- –Limited charging infrastructure outside major cities affects usability
- –Dimensions (length/width/height/wheelbase/ground clearance) are not confirmed from an official spec sheet for the India car
Is the EX30 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Compact dimensions, one-pedal drive and instant torque make the EX30 an excellent, efficient city car.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
480km WLTP range handles most highway runs comfortably, though it's not built as a dedicated long-distance tourer.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A genuine 5-star Euro NCAP rating is reassuring, but the compact cabin is better suited to a small family than a large one.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
272hp and instant EV torque make it genuinely quick off the line, even if it's not a driver's-car chassis.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At ₹41 lakh, it's an expensive first car, but the safety record and running costs make a case for a well-heeled first-time buyer.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The compact cabin is more driver-focused than chauffeur-focused; look to the ES or RX for a rear-seat brief.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
RWD-only, road-biased and short on ground clearance, the EX30 simply wasn't engineered with off-road ambition in mind.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Volvo EX30: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The short front overhang and bumper take the first stone chips, and the fixed panoramic roof's edge seal needs careful masking during any film work.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front for most owners; full body for buyers who want the leather-free cabin's exterior counterpart fully protected from day one.
Coverage
Full front standard; add lower doors and roof-edge coverage for highway-heavy use.
