Discovery Waiting Period

Typical across India: CarTrade's Discovery price page lists a waiting period of 8–14 weeks for the diesel automatic, though it isn't dated and predates the 1 July 2026 Landmark introduction. (as of 4 Nov 2026)

No dealer survey has been published specifically for the current S/Landmark/Tempest line-up since the 1 July 2026 restructure — treat the 8–14 week figure as indicative only and confirm current stock with a dealer.

Use the wait well: book your AG1 PPF slot for delivery week so the film goes on before the first stone chip. WhatsApp your expected delivery date.

The Auto Grid Review

Land Rover Discovery Review: Our Verdict

4.1/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

The Discovery is one of the rarer Land Rovers at our Kondapur bay, and most of what we've seen since the October 2025 relaunch has been a Tempest, with the odd S and — since July 2026 — the newer Landmark starting to show up too; the old Dynamic S and Metropolitan Edition cars still on the road are the only other trims we work on. The clamshell bonnet and the asymmetric tailgate are the two panels that define this car's shape, and that side-hinged glass on the tailgate means we have to work around a seam that most SUVs don't have. The bonnet and the leading edge of the roof take highway stone chips first, while the lower doors and rear quarter panels behind the wheels pick up road grime and light scratches on Hyderabad's broken approach roads. Tempest owners are particular about the Petra Copper Gloss roof and the gloss-black brightwork staying marked-up-free, and the Landmark's Tasman Blue paint shows swirl marks more readily than the greys and whites in this range.

What we like

  • +Genuinely practical 7-seat, 5+2 layout with a powered third row on the Tempest
  • +5-star Euro NCAP rating still applicable to the current L462 generation
  • +Single, well-sorted 350 PS mild-hybrid diesel rather than a confusing engine lineup
  • +Air suspension and permanent AWD make it a genuinely composed long-distance and light off-road tool

What we’d change

  • –Only one engine across all three trims — no petrol option
  • –No official ARAI or WLTP mileage figure published by Land Rover India
  • –Clamshell bonnet and the asymmetric tailgate's side-hinged glass need careful film-fitting around the seam
  • –Landmark's price was still unannounced as of the latest dated report found, and no dealer waiting-period survey has been published since the 1 July 2026 restructure

Is the Discovery right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

It's smooth and easy to place despite its size, but this is a large, expensive SUV for what should be a straightforward daily commute.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

Air suspension, 700 Nm of torque and a quiet cabin make this one of the most relaxed long-distance cruisers in its price band on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru stretch.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

A genuine 7-seat layout, ISOFIX mounts and a 5-star Euro NCAP score make this one of the most family-practical luxury SUVs sold in India today.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

This is a comfort-and-capability SUV, not a driver's car — the chassis is tuned for ride quality and off-road composure rather than cornering sharpness.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

Price, running costs, insurance and sheer footprint rule this out as anyone's sensible first car, whatever the badge appeal.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

The air suspension's smooth ride and the Tempest's four-zone climate control and Meridian sound system make the rear seats a genuinely good place to be chauffeured.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

All Terrain Progress Control, permanent AWD and real ground clearance make this capable off the tarmac, though road-biased tyres on the Tempest's larger wheels limit outright off-road ambition.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Land Rover Discovery: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

The clamshell bonnet and the leading edge of the roof take the first highway stone chips; the lower doors and rear quarter panels behind the wheels pick up road grime and scratches on broken approach roads, and the asymmetric tailgate's side-hinged glass creates a seam that needs careful handling during installation; Tempest's Petra Copper Gloss roof and gloss-black brightwork, and the Landmark's Tasman Blue paint, both show marks more readily than the range's greys and whites.

Our recommendation

AG1 full-front with tailgate coverage as the baseline, given how exposed the bonnet and tailgate seam are to highway chips; AG1 Square full body for Tempest and Landmark owners who want the gloss roof and the standout paint colours protected from day one.

Coverage

Full front and tailgate standard; add the rear quarter panels and lower doors for highway-heavy use, and full body for Tempest and Landmark buyers keeping the special-edition paint and roof finish pristine.

FAQs

Land Rover Discovery: Questions Buyers Ask

Land Rover India prices the Discovery S from ₹1.25 crore and the Discovery Tempest from ₹1.39 crore ex-showroom (last confirmed 13 Oct 2025); the mid-spec Landmark, introduced 1 July 2026, has not had an ex-showroom price announced as of 4 November 2026 in any dated report we could find — confirm with a dealer before budgeting for one.

The Gemini edition (launched October 2025) was superseded on 1 July 2026 by the new Landmark edition, which Land Rover now lists as the mid-spec trim between S and Tempest on its official India site. Landmark adds an exclusive Tasman Blue paint, Graphite Atlas exterior accents, a centre console refrigerator and three-zone climate control; its price has not been separately announced.

S is the entry trim. Landmark, introduced 1 July 2026, sits in the middle with an exclusive Tasman Blue paint option, Graphite Atlas grille and skid-plate accents, a centre console refrigerator and three-zone climate control. Tempest is the range-topper, adding a head-up display, four-zone climate control, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, a heated steering wheel, powered third-row seats and its own exclusive Borasco Grey paint with a Petra Copper Gloss contrast roof.

Yes — they are two separate nameplates. The Discovery is the larger, full-size 7-seat SUV covered here, sold as S, Landmark and Tempest trims; the Discovery Sport is a smaller, locally-assembled compact SUV sold as a single Dynamic SE trim and is nearing the end of its production run globally.

Land Rover India does not publish an ARAI or WLTP-claimed mileage figure for the Discovery on its own site. Given its size, 2-plus-tonne kerb weight and permanent AWD system, expect real-world mileage in the low double digits on the highway and lower in city traffic.

Yes. S, Landmark and Tempest all come as 5+2-seat, 7-seat SUVs, with the Tempest adding power-folding to the third row.

An undated CarTrade listing puts the diesel automatic's wait at 8–14 weeks, but no dealer survey has been published specifically for the current S/Landmark/Tempest line-up since the 1 July 2026 restructure, so treat that figure as indicative only and confirm current stock with your dealer.

Yes — the bonnet and the tailgate's side-hinged glass seam take the most exposure on highway runs, and the Tempest's gloss roof and brightwork, along with the Landmark's Tasman Blue paint, show marks easily. We run a full-front-plus-tailgate AG1 package as standard, with full-body coverage for most Tempest and Landmark buyers.

Indicatively ₹1.51 crore–₹1.74 crore on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹1.25 crore–₹1.39 crore (Delhi, 4 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.

The top variant is the Discovery Tempest (Diesel, 9-speed automatic, permanent AWD) at ₹1.39 crore ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the Discovery S (Diesel, 9-speed automatic, permanent AWD) at ₹1.25 crore. 3 variants in all, as of 4 Nov 2026.

Discovery: Full-size 7-seat luxury SUV, ₹1.25 crore – ₹1.39 crore ex-showroom, Diesel, Auto Grid rating 4.1/5. Defender: Full-size luxury off-road SUV, ₹99.00 lakh – ₹2.79 crore ex-showroom, Petrol/Diesel, rated 4.4/5. See the Land Rover Defender page for its full variant list and our verdict.

Discovery: Full-size 7-seat luxury SUV, ₹1.25 crore – ₹1.39 crore ex-showroom, Diesel, Auto Grid rating 4.1/5. XC90: Full-size luxury SUV, ₹98.80 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol (Mild Hybrid, 48V), rated 4.3/5. See the Volvo XC90 page for its full variant list and our verdict.
