The Auto Grid Review
Audi Q5 Review: Our Verdict
The Q5 that comes into our Kondapur bay is almost always a Technology-trim car in Glacier White or Mythos Black, and it is one of the easier Audis to film because the body is simple — a deep, slab-sided bonnet, flat doors and gentle creases rather than the sharp character lines a Mercedes GLC carries. The flat bonnet and the deep front bumper take the first stone chips on the ORR and the Shamshabad stretch, and the lower door cladding sand-blasts on anything resembling a highway trip. Dealer-applied swirl marks show up under our lamps on the darker metallics more than on Glacier White. This is an ageing platform — Audi itself has flagged a replacement — but the quattro all-wheel drive and the 7-speed S tronic still feel properly sorted on Hyderabad's broken patches, and owners treat the car as a long-term keeper rather than a quick flip, which is exactly the profile that benefits from a proper full-body film rather than a front-only package.
What we like
- +quattro all-wheel drive and adaptive dampers standard across the range
- +Simple, flat body panels that film cleanly with minimal trim removal
- +Strong highway composure for a mid-size SUV
- +Technology trim's 360-camera and B&O sound justify the step up
What we’d change
- –Single petrol-only powertrain with no diesel or hybrid option in India
- –Interior tech and screen size trail newer rivals like the GLC and X3
- –No Bharat NCAP test on the India-spec car
- –Platform is due for replacement, which will soften resale on the outgoing car
Is the Q5 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The S tronic gearbox and light quattro-assisted steering make stop-go Hyderabad traffic easy, though the 200 mm clearance means care over speed breakers.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
This is where the Q5 is most convincing — adaptive dampers, a quiet cabin and 370 Nm of torque make ORR and expressway runs genuinely relaxed.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Five proper seats and a usable 520-litre boot work for a family of four, but rear kneeroom is tighter than an XC60 or a Discovery Sport.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
265 PS and quattro grip make it quick enough, but the chassis is tuned for comfort over cornering sharpness compared with a BMW X3.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
It is not a sensible first car on running costs or service pricing, though the strong resale among used-luxury buyers is a point in its favour.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Rear seats are comfortable for shorter trips, but legroom and the absence of rear sunshades on base trims fall short of a chauffeur-first brief.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
quattro grip helps on wet ghat roads, but 200 mm of clearance and road-biased tyres mean this stays a tarmac SUV, not an off-roader.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Audi Q5: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The Q5's deep front bumper and flat bonnet take the first stone chips on the ORR and on broken stretches around Shamshabad; the lower door cladding and rear wheel-arches sand-blast on highway trips, and dealer-applied swirl marks are most visible under inspection lamps on the darker metallics like Mythos Black and Manhattan Gray.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with mirror caps and headlamp coverage for Premium Plus and Bold Edition owners who mostly stay in the city; AG1 full-body for Technology and Signature Line cars, since these owners tend to keep the car longer and want the panoramic sunroof surround and flanks protected too.
Coverage
Full front plus A-pillars as the base package; add lower doors, sills and rear wheel-arches for regular Hyderabad-Bangalore or Hyderabad-Vizag highway runs, and full-body coverage for the top two trims.

FAQs
Audi Q5: Questions Buyers Ask
Audi's official myAudi booking portal lists the Q5 from ₹65.55 lakh (Premium Plus) to ₹70.73 lakh (Technology) ex-showroom as of 5 November 2026, with the limited-run Bold Edition and Signature Line in between at roughly ₹69.8-69.86 lakh.
The 2.0 TFSI petrol's claimed efficiency is 13.47 km/l, as reported by multiple India price-aggregator sites citing the ARAI-tested figure for the single India-spec powertrain.
The India-spec Q5 has not been tested by Bharat NCAP. Euro NCAP's 2017 5-star rating for this generation (2.0 TDI S tronic) has since expired; a newer global Q5 generation scored 5 stars again in Euro NCAP's 2025 tests, but that car is not the one currently sold in India, so treat any '5-star Q5' claim about the India car with that caveat.
In our bay, most owners who want the full feature set (360 camera, B&O sound, MMI navigation) pick Technology. If you mainly want the quattro drive and panoramic sunroof without the premium, Premium Plus or Bold Edition cover the basics for noticeably less.
Yes — the flat bonnet and deep front bumper are the first panels to pick up chips on Hyderabad's ORR and highway approaches, and dealer-buff swirls show up readily on the darker metallics, so a full-front film is our standard recommendation for this car. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan suited to your trim and colour.
In our experience servicing them, yes within its brief: quattro grip, a sorted ride and simple, honest build quality. It is an ageing platform next to the newer BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC on interior tech, and Audi has confirmed a replacement is coming, so weigh resale against the lower entry price of today's GST-cut deals.
All three are 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, AWD mid-size luxury SUVs in a similar price band. The Q5's quattro system and ride comfort are its strongest cards; the GLC generally has the more modern cabin and better resale, while the X3 leans sportier to drive. Autocar India's comparison testing rates the GLC highest of the three overall.
No. The Q5 is a strict 5-seat mid-size SUV; buyers who need a third row should look at the Audi Q7, which seats 7.
Indicatively ₹79.05 lakh–₹88.47 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹65.55 lakh–₹70.73 lakh (New Delhi, 5 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
The top variant is the Technology 45 TFSI quattro (Petrol, 7-speed S tronic) at ₹70.73 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi; the base model is the Premium Plus 45 TFSI quattro (Petrol, 7-speed S tronic) at ₹65.55 lakh. 4 variants in all, as of 5 Nov 2026.
Q5: Mid-size luxury SUV, ₹65.55 lakh – ₹70.73 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol, Auto Grid rating 4.1/5. Land Cruiser 300: Luxury ladder-frame flagship SUV, ₹2.18 crore – ₹2.25 crore ex-showroom, Diesel, rated 4.6/5. See the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 page for its full variant list and our verdict.
Q5: Mid-size luxury SUV, ₹65.55 lakh – ₹70.73 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol, Auto Grid rating 4.1/5. Tiguan: Premium SUV, ₹47.11 lakh ex-showroom, Petrol, rated 4.3/5. See the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line page for its full variant list and our verdict.
