The Auto Grid Review
Audi Q8 Review: Our Verdict
Every Q8 that comes into our Kondapur bay is a car bought for how it looks, so owners are fussier about paint than on any other Audi we see. The low, sloping coupe roofline and the wide rear haunches are the surfaces people point a torch at before they even ask about price, and they're also the first places dealer-buff swirls show up under our lamps. The long, low front bumper and the bonnet pick up stone chips on any real-world drive, and the frameless doors' lower edges scrape easily against kerbs in Hyderabad's multi-level parking given how wide this car is. SQ8 owners, in particular, are almost always asking for full-body coverage — at this price point and with this much attention on the panels, a front-only package feels like protecting half the car people actually bought it for.
What we like
- +Standard quattro AWD and adaptive air suspension across the whole Q8 range
- +SQ8 slots a genuinely usable 507 PS V8 performance option above the standard petrol V6
- +Flagship styling and cabin tech (Matrix LED, B&O sound, MMI) are standard, not optional extras
- +Flat, wide body panels film cleanly despite the sculpted coupe roofline
What we’d change
- –No Bharat NCAP test published; the related Euro NCAP 5-star rating expired in January 2026
- –Rear headroom is noticeably tighter than the Q7 because of the sloping roofline
- –Petrol-only, with ARAI-claimed efficiency around 10 km/l on the standard car
- –No dated India waiting-period survey exists for either Q8 or SQ8
Is the Q8 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The Q8's width and low front overhang make it a handful to place in tight Hyderabad lanes and basement parking compared with a Q5 or Q7.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Air suspension, quattro grip and strong V6/V8 torque make long expressway runs effortless, and the coupe roofline actually helps high-speed stability.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Five seats and a 605-litre boot work for a smaller family, but the sloping roofline cuts rear headroom versus the boxier Q7, and there's no seven-seat option.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The SQ8's 507 PS twin-turbo V8 makes this a genuinely exciting Audi SUV, with real pace to match the looks — enthusiasts after even more should look at the separately catalogued RS Q8.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
This is squarely a second or third car for an established buyer — running costs and insurance rule it out as anyone's first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The front cabin is genuinely special, but the coupe roofline and lower rear seat height make the back row less of a priority than on the Q7 or a long-wheelbase sedan.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Adaptive air suspension helps on rough tarmac, but the low front bumper and road-biased wheels mean this stays a highway and city car, not a trail SUV.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Audi Q8: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The Q8's low, sloping coupe roofline and wide rear haunches are the styling-led surfaces owners care most about, and also the first places dealer-buff swirl marks show under inspection light; the long, low front bumper and bonnet take stone chips on any real-world drive, and the frameless doors' lower edges scrape easily against kerbs given the car's width in multi-level parking.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-body is our default quote across the Q8 range, since buyers at this level are protecting a design flagship, not just commuting metal; where budget calls for a partial package, we prioritise the front bumper, bonnet, mirror caps and the sloping roofline edge first.
Coverage
Full-body as the standard recommendation; full front, bonnet, mirror caps and roofline edge as the minimum partial package for both Q8 and SQ8.

FAQs
Audi Q8: Questions Buyers Ask
Audi's official myAudi booking portal lists the Q8 range from ₹1.13 crore (standard 55 TFSI quattro) to ₹1.81 crore (SQ8) ex-showroom, as of 5 November 2026. The range-topping RS Q8 Performance is a separately catalogued model (see audi/rs-q8), priced from ₹2.34 crore.
The standard 3.0 TFSI V6 Q8's claimed efficiency is around 10 km/l per price-aggregator sites citing the ARAI figure; Audi has not published a separate claimed efficiency figure for the SQ8's V8 engine.
The India-spec Q8 has not had a published Bharat NCAP test. Euro NCAP rated the closely related Q7/Q8 platform 5 stars in 2019, but that rating formally expired on 1 January 2026 under Euro NCAP's own review rules and has not been renewed, so treat any current '5-star Q8' claim with that caveat.
The standard Q8 uses a 340 PS 3.0 TFSI V6. The SQ8, launched in March 2026, adds a 507 PS twin-turbo V8 performance option above it. Audi India also sells a range-topping RS Q8 Performance with a 640 PS tune of the same V8, bigger brakes, 23-inch wheels and sharper suspension hardware — it is priced and catalogued separately (audi/rs-q8), not as a Q8 trim.
Yes — the low front bumper and sloping roofline are the panels most exposed to stone chips and showroom-light swirl marks on this car, which is why full-body coverage is our standard recommendation across the Q8 range. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan suited to your trim.
Yes. The facelifted Q8 has been on sale since its 22 August 2024 launch, joined by the SQ8 performance trim in March 2026. The range-topping RS Q8 Performance is also on sale, but as a separately catalogued model (audi/rs-q8).
As a showpiece flagship, yes — the cabin tech, quattro drive and build quality are all genuinely strong. It is a 5-seat coupe-SUV first and a practical family car second, so buyers who need three rows or maximum headroom are better served by the boxier Q7.
We don't have independent reliability data broken down by Q8 trim. The standard 55 TFSI V6 is the simplest and most proven powertrain of the two; the SQ8 adds a more complex twin-turbo V8 and additional performance hardware, which is more to maintain even if build quality is shared.
Audi has not published a remote engine-start feature for the India-spec ICE Q8. The myAudi connect app gives remote vehicle status, location and some convenience functions; confirm exactly which app features your Q8's trim and model year support with your dealer, since connected-car features have changed across facelifts.
Indicatively ₹1.36 crore–₹2.27 crore on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹1.13 crore–₹1.81 crore (New Delhi, 5 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
The top variant is the SQ8 (Petrol, 8-speed automatic) at ₹1.81 crore ex-showroom New Delhi; the base model is the Q8 55 TFSI quattro tiptronic (Petrol, 8-speed tiptronic) at ₹1.13 crore. 2 variants in all, as of 5 Nov 2026.
Q8: Flagship coupe-SUV, ₹1.13 crore – ₹1.81 crore ex-showroom, Petrol, Auto Grid rating 4.4/5. Cayenne: Luxury SUV, ₹1.51 crore – ₹2.13 crore ex-showroom, Petrol, rated 4.3/5. See the Porsche Cayenne page for its full variant list and our verdict.
Ground clearance 254 mm, boot space 605 litres, 5 seats, length 5020 mm (Audi official specification).
