The Auto Grid Review

Audi Q8 e-tron Review: Our Verdict

4.0/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

Q8 e-trons still roll into our Kondapur bay occasionally — Audi India delisted the nameplate in May 2026, but the early batches are coming up on their first big service and PPF renewal. The flat bonnet and the frameless boot lid are the panels that chip first on ORR gravel, and the Sportback's shallow rear screen collects swirl marks from dealer buffing before delivery. Because there's no grille to break up the nose, stone chips show up as a scattered field across one continuous painted surface rather than hiding in creases — that makes full-front coverage non-negotiable on this car. Owners who bought in 2023-24 are now the ones calling us, since resale buyers want the paint to look factory-fresh with no replacement parts in the service history.

What we like

  • +Quietest, most comfortable ride among luxury EV SUVs we've filmed
  • +106-114kWh battery options gave a genuine 580-600km WLTP range
  • +Flat rear floor and a 569-litre boot with a useful front frunk
  • +Strong 664Nm torque makes it effortless on the expressway

What we’d change

  • –Discontinued in India since 3 May 2026 — no new units, only used/CBU stock
  • –Boot shape is less practical than the raw litre figure suggests
  • –No Bharat NCAP test as a CBU import — only Euro NCAP data applies
  • –Service network for Audi EVs is thin outside metro cities

Is the Q8 e-tron right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

Single-pedal regen and a tight turning circle make it easy around Hyderabad traffic, but it's discontinued and expensive to buy new, so most commuters will look elsewhere now.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

The 55 quattro's 664Nm and adaptive air suspension make this one of the most relaxed, silent cruisers we've driven on the ORR, with real-world range comfortably covering a Hyderabad-Bengaluru run.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

Eight airbags, a flat rear floor and genuine five-seat space make it family-friendly, though the smaller boot than the old e-tron and patchy charging infrastructure outside cities are real trade-offs.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

It's quick in a straight line thanks to 664Nm of torque, but this is a comfort-tuned SUV, not a driver's car — the steering and chassis don't reward being pushed hard into corners.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

At over a crore and now discontinued with a shrinking parts and service pipeline, the Q8 e-tron makes no sense as anyone's first car in India.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

Rear legroom, the flat floor, four-zone climate and the quiet cabin make this one of the best chauffeur-driven EVs we've seen, with ride quality that absorbs Hyderabad's broken outer-ring roads easily.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

Quattro AWD and decent ground clearance help on a smooth ghat road, but road-biased tyres, no low-range gearing and patchy rural charging rule out serious off-tarmac weekend trips.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Audi Q8 e-tron: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

No grille means the entire nose is one unbroken painted panel that takes every stone chip the ORR throws at it; the Sportback's shallow rear glass and tight C-pillar collect dealer-buff swirls, and the flush door handles scratch around their recessed pockets.

Our recommendation

AG1 full-front with headlamp and mirror caps for daily-driven examples; full-body AG1 Square for cars kept for resale, since EV buyers inspect paint harder than ICE buyers given the battery and service-history questions they already carry.

Coverage

Full front, mirror caps and door-handle pockets as standard; add the bonnet-to-roof strip and rear bumper for cars doing regular highway runs.
