The Auto Grid Review
Porsche Cayenne Electric Review: Our Verdict
The Cayenne Electric is a new arrival at our Kondapur bay — Porsche India only started deliveries at the end of September 2026, so we've filmed a handful, not hundreds. What we've seen so far: the 4,985mm body and 1,980mm width mean it needs the full bay, not the standard lane, and the frameless doors and model-specific wheel arches take real care during masking. The Matrix LED headlight surround and the long, low bonnet are the first places a toll-booth or a construction-zone stone will leave a mark, and on the darker metallics — Chromite Black, Vanadium Grey — a dealer-prep swirl shows up under our inspection lamps exactly like it does on any other dark Porsche. Being a CBU import on allocation, every car that comes in is already a six-figure-dollar asset before you add accessories, so owners we've spoken to want the body protected from day one rather than after the first chip appears.
What we like
- +800V architecture with genuinely fast 16-minute 10–80% DC charging
- +Up to 1,156 PS in Turbo guise with real daily usability
- +Full Porsche connected-tech suite — digital key, AR HUD, Voice Pilot
- +Sold alongside the petrol Cayenne, so buyers aren't forced to choose
What we’d change
- –At least a 6-month wait brand-wide as an allocation-based CBU import
- –Not tested by Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP
- –Service and charging-infra network still thin outside metro India
- –A six-figure-dollar price before the options list even opens
Is the Cayenne Electric right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
It is far more car and far more money than a daily commute needs; the single-speed AWD is effortless in traffic, but this isn't why someone buys one.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The 835 Nm (1,500 Nm in Turbo) and 642 km WLTP range make it a genuinely fast, genuinely long-legged expressway car with room to spare.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Five real seats, a 781-litre boot and a 90-litre frunk cover a family's luggage; the untested NCAP status is the one honest asterisk for safety-focused buyers.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Up to 1,156 PS, Launch Control and Porsche's ePTM all-wheel-drive tuning give it real driver-focused credentials despite the badge being on an SUV.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Not a first car by any measure — price, running costs and the CBU allocation process put it well outside that buyer's world.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Quiet, fast and well-finished from the rear seat, though it's bought and driven by owners rather than used as a chauffeur car in most of our bay's experience.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
AWD and 190mm clearance handle a rough ghat road, but this is a road-biased luxury SUV, not an off-roader, and owners treat it that way.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Porsche Cayenne Electric: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The long, low bonnet and the Matrix LED headlight surround take the first stone chips on Indian roads; the frameless doors and model-specific wheel-arch cladding need careful masking during install; dark metallics like Chromite Black and Vanadium Grey show dealer-prep swirl marks easily under inspection light.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with mirror caps and door-edge guards as the standard install on a CBU import this valuable; full-body AG1 Square coverage for owners protecting resale value from day one, with extra care taken around the frameless doors and wheel-arch trim.
Coverage
Full front, mirror caps and door edges as standard; full body optional, with the headlight surround and bonnet lip treated as highest-priority panels.

FAQs
Porsche Cayenne Electric: Questions Buyers Ask
Porsche India launched the Cayenne Electric at ₹1,77,27,000 ex-showroom and the Cayenne Turbo Electric at ₹2,27,51,000 ex-showroom on 30 September 2026, with deliveries starting the same day.
Both variants use a 113 kWh, 800V battery. Porsche's WLTP-claimed combined range is 642 km for the Cayenne Electric and 623 km for the more powerful Cayenne Turbo Electric. DC fast charging at up to 400 kW takes the battery from 10–80% in about 16 minutes.
No. Porsche India has said it will continue selling the petrol Cayenne alongside the new Cayenne Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric, giving buyers a choice between powertrains rather than a straight replacement.
No independent crash-test rating has been published for the Cayenne Electric by Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP — it is a low-volume CBU import, and testing bodies typically don't rate cars sold in this volume in India.
Porsche India's Head, Ashutosh Dixit, said on 30 September 2026 that every Porsche sold in India is fully imported and the brand-wide wait is at least six months, stretching to around a year for heavily customised orders — this isn't a Cayenne Electric-specific figure, but it is the brand's own on-record line on delivery timelines, and this car only began deliveries that same week.
It's a different proposition rather than a strict upgrade: faster in a straight line (up to 1,156 PS in Turbo guise), quieter, and cheaper to run per kilometre, but you're trading the petrol flat-six's sound and India's thin DC fast-charging network outside metros for that. Porsche is selling both side by side rather than pushing buyers toward one.
It launched in Mumbai on 30 September 2026, with deliveries of both the Cayenne Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric starting the same day — it's already on sale, not an upcoming model.
The Cayenne Electric is the larger, more expensive electric SUV (from ₹1.77 crore) with a bigger 113kWh battery and up to 642km WLTP range, versus the Macan Electric's compact-SUV footprint and lower starting price. Both share Porsche's 800V architecture and dual-motor AWD layout.
Yes — the bonnet, headlight surrounds and frameless doors take the first damage on Indian roads, and dark metallic paints show prep swirls easily, so we recommend at least a full-front AG1 install before first use. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan for your car.
Indicatively ₹1.82 crore–₹2.37 crore on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹1.77 crore–₹2.28 crore (Delhi, 3 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (0% (EV exemption)), first-year insurance and registration. EVs pay no road tax or registration fee in Telangana until 31 December 2026. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
The top variant is the Cayenne Turbo Electric (Electric, Single-speed automatic, AWD) at ₹2.28 crore ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the Cayenne Electric (Electric, Single-speed automatic, AWD) at ₹1.77 crore. 2 variants in all, as of 3 Nov 2026.
Cayenne Electric: Luxury electric SUV, ₹1.77 crore – ₹2.28 crore ex-showroom, Electric, Auto Grid rating 4.3/5. Compact Electric SUV: Compact electric SUV, Price not announced ex-showroom, Electric.
