The Auto Grid Review
Porsche Taycan Review: Our Verdict
We've filmed only a handful of Taycans at our Kondapur bay — this is still a rare car in Hyderabad, rarer than the Macan Electric. What we've seen: the long, flat bonnet and the low front apron take the first stone chips on any ORR run, and the flush door handles need careful attention during masking so the film sits flush once they extend. The panoramic glass roof is the single biggest ask we get for UV/ceramic protection, since owners park outdoors and want to protect the headliner from heat soak as much as the paint from chips. It is quiet, composed and genuinely quick, and owners treat it the way they'd treat any six-figure-dollar asset — protected before the first mark, not after.
What we like
- +800V architecture with genuinely fast DC charging for an Indian EV
- +Porsche driving dynamics in a practical four-door saloon shape
- +Quiet, refined cabin with a usable 407-litre boot plus an 81-litre frunk
- +Strong brand cachet and resale within India's small luxury-EV circle
What we’d change
- –At least a 6-month wait brand-wide since every unit is imported
- –India-specific WLTP range figures are not yet separately homologated on some trims
- –Untested by Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP
- –DC fast-charging infrastructure outside metro India is still thin
Is the Taycan right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Smooth and quiet in traffic, but this is far more car and money than a daily commute calls for — nobody buys a Taycan just to get to work.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
Air suspension, strong motors and a genuinely quiet cabin make it an excellent expressway car, with real range for an Indian EV.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Four adults travel in comfort and the boot-plus-frunk combination is usable, but the sloping roofline and lack of an NCAP/Bharat NCAP rating are honest caveats for safety-focused family buyers.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
Porsche's chassis tuning, the 2-speed rear transmission and the Turbo's 884 PS give it genuine driver appeal that most electric saloons don't match.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Not a first car by any measure — price, running costs and the CBU import wait put it well outside that buyer's world.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Quiet and well-isolated from the rear seat, though the Panamera gives more rear legroom for owners who want to be chauffeur-driven.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Low ground clearance and road-biased tyres rule out anything rougher than a smooth weekend drive; this is a saloon, not an SUV.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Porsche Taycan: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The long, flat bonnet and low front apron take the first stone chips on highway runs; flush door handles need careful masking so the film sits correctly once they extend; the panoramic glass roof draws the most requests for UV/ceramic protection rather than PPF alone.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with the flush door-handle recesses filmed separately for a clean finish; AG1 Square full body for owners protecting resale value on a car this expensive, with ceramic/UV film offered for the panoramic glass roof.
Coverage
Full front, mirror caps and door-handle wells as standard; full body optional, with the glass roof treated as a separate line item from the paint film.

FAQs
Porsche Taycan: Questions Buyers Ask
Porsche's own India configurator lists the Taycan from ₹2,00,70,000 (4S) to ₹2,74,27,000 (Turbo) ex-showroom as of 3 November 2026, with the 4S Black Edition at ₹2,09,45,000 in between.
Porsche's global WLTP figures for this generation run roughly 500-590 km combined depending on variant, though Porsche's own India configurator flags that some trims show European specification values pending market-specific homologation — treat the exact India figure as provisional until Porsche India publishes it directly.
Porsche India's Head, Ashutosh Dixit, said on 30 September 2026 that every Porsche sold in India is fully imported and the brand-wide wait is at least six months, stretching to around a year for heavily customised orders — this isn't a Taycan-specific figure, but it is the brand's own on-record line on delivery timelines.
No official Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP crash-test result has been published for the India-spec Taycan — it is a low-volume CBU import and hasn't been through either programme's testing.
Yes — the Taycan is Porsche's first fully electric model, built on the 800V J1 platform with no petrol or hybrid version. The Panamera, by contrast, is Porsche's petrol four-door sedan, and the two are sold alongside each other in India as separate nameplates.
Both share the same 800V J1 platform and much of their underlying hardware, since Audi and Porsche co-developed it. The Taycan leans sportier in steering feel and rear-biased chassis tuning; the RS e-tron GT is tuned slightly more for comfort and GT-style cruising. In India, the choice usually comes down to dealer network preference and badge pull rather than a meaningful performance gap.
The Taycan is Porsche's fully electric four-door, quicker off the line and cheaper to run per kilometre but dependent on charging infrastructure; the Panamera is the petrol V6 sedan with a traditional engine note and no range anxiety on long intercity drives. Buyers who do long highway runs without reliable fast-charging along the route tend to still pick the Panamera.
They serve different needs: the 911 is a two-door, 2+2 petrol sports car with 132 litres of boot space; the Taycan is a practical four-door electric saloon with a usable 407-litre boot plus an 81-litre frunk. Buyers choosing a daily-usable Porsche with some performance pick the Taycan; buyers chasing outright driving thrill and tradition pick the 911.
As a driver's electric saloon, yes — Porsche's chassis tuning and the 2-speed rear transmission give it handling most electric sedans in India can't match, and the 800V architecture charges genuinely fast. The honest caveats are the price, the import wait, provisional India range figures on some trims, and no published Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP rating.
It depends on how you use it: the Taycan is quicker, quieter and cheaper to run per kilometre than a comparable petrol sedan, but you're trading that for a CBU import wait and reliance on India's still-thin DC fast-charging network outside metro cities. Buyers who do most of their driving within a city or along well-charged highway corridors get the most out of it.
Yes — the long bonnet and front apron take the first stone chips on Indian roads, and the flush door handles need careful masking during install. We run a full-front AG1 film as standard on every Taycan at our Kondapur bay, extending to full body for owners protecting resale value. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan for your variant.
Indicatively ₹2.06 crore–₹2.85 crore on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹2.01 crore–₹2.74 crore (Delhi, 3 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (0% (EV exemption)), first-year insurance and registration. EVs pay no road tax or registration fee in Telangana until 31 December 2026. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
The top variant is the Taycan Turbo (Electric, Single/2-speed automatic, AWD) at ₹2.74 crore ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the Taycan 4S (Electric, Single/2-speed automatic, AWD) at ₹2.01 crore. 3 variants in all, as of 3 Nov 2026.
