The Auto Grid Review

Porsche 911 Review: Our Verdict

4.6/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

The 911 is the car every other panel at our Kondapur bay gets compared to, but we film very few of them — this is a handful-a-year nameplate for us, split across Carrera, GTS and the odd GT3 or Turbo S. The front bumper and the long, low nose take the first stone chips on any ORR run, and the aluminium bonnet and wings are easy to dent-correct but need real care during PPF install since the panel gaps are tighter than on any SUV we work on. GT3 owners bring in track-day cars with real front-splitter and rocker-panel damage from kerbs; Carrera and GTS owners are more particular about swirl marks on Guards Red and the darker metallics showing under our inspection lamps. Every 911 that comes in has waited at least six months as a fully-imported car, per Porsche India's own brand-wide guidance, so owners want it protected before the first stone chip, not after.

What we like

  • +Among the most complete, best-balanced sports cars sold in India at any price
  • +T-Hybrid GTS and Turbo S bring genuine performance gains without losing 911 character
  • +GT3's naturally aspirated flat-six and PDK are track-ready yet road-usable
  • +Strong residual values within India's small used-911 circle

What we’d change

  • –At least a 6-month wait brand-wide as a CBU import, likely longer for GT3 and other low-allocation trims
  • –Untested by Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP
  • –132-litre front boot only — no usable rear load space
  • –Service and parts costs far above any mainstream sports or luxury car

Is the 911 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

Light PDK clutch and good visibility make it liveable in traffic, but a 2+2 sports car with a 132-litre boot isn't why anyone buys one for the daily commute.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

Stable at speed, quiet in Normal mode and devastatingly quick in Sport Plus — the 911 is as happy cruising the ORR as it is on a track day.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

The rear 2+2 seats fit small children at a push on the Carrera/GTS; the GT3 is a strict two-seater. Not a family car by any real measure, and it's untested by NCAP or Bharat NCAP.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

This is the reason the 911 exists — steering feedback, chassis balance and the GT3's naturally aspirated flat-six are as good as anything sold in India.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

Not a first car on price, insurance, running cost or practicality by any stretch.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

A 2+2 sports car isn't a chauffeur-driven executive car; buyers wanting a Porsche for the rear seat look at the Panamera or Cayenne instead.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

Low ground clearance and road-biased tyres rule out anything but a smooth weekend drive — this is a car for good roads, not rough ones.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Porsche 911: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

The long, low front bumper and bonnet take the first stone chips on any highway run; tight panel gaps around the aluminium doors and wings demand careful masking; GT3 front splitters and rocker panels take real kerb and speed-bump damage; Guards Red and dark metallics show dealer-prep swirl marks easily.

Our recommendation

AG1 full-front as the baseline on every 911 that comes through our bay, with the GT3's front splitter and rocker panels filmed separately; AG1 Square full-body for Guards Red, Carmine Red and darker metallic cars where any swirl or chip is highly visible.

Coverage

Full front, mirror caps and rocker panels as standard; full body for bright or dark solid/metallic colours and for GT3/Turbo S owners planning track use.

FAQs

Porsche 911: Questions Buyers Ask

Porsche's own India configurator lists the 911 from ₹2,11,29,000 (Carrera) to ₹3,82,49,000 (Turbo S) ex-showroom as of 3 November 2026, with the Carrera 4 GTS at ₹2,82,14,000 and the GT3 at ₹3,32,60,000 in between.

Porsche India's Head, Ashutosh Dixit, said on 30 September 2026 that every Porsche sold in India is fully imported and the brand-wide wait is at least six months, stretching to around a year for heavily customised orders — this is brand-wide guidance rather than a 911-specific figure, and low-allocation variants like the GT3 typically run longer than the Carrera.

No. The 911 is a low-volume CBU import and has not been crash-tested by Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP — neither programme rates cars sold in these volumes in India.

The Carrera uses a conventional 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six (394 PS). The Carrera 4 GTS and Turbo S both use a newer 3.6-litre twin-turbo flat-six with Porsche's T-Hybrid electric-turbo assistance, producing 541 PS and 711 PS combined respectively. The GT3 is the odd one out — a naturally aspirated, non-hybrid 4.0-litre flat-six built for track use.

It can be, within limits: the Carrera and GTS have usable rear 2+2 seats for occasional use and a front-axle lift option helps with speed bumps and ramps, but the 132-litre front boot and low ground clearance mean it works best as a second or third car rather than an only car.

Yes — the front bumper and bonnet take the first stone chips on Indian roads, and the tight panel gaps need careful masking during install. We run a full-front AG1 film as standard on every 911 at our Kondapur bay, extending to full body for bright colours and track-oriented GT3/Turbo S owners. Indicatively ₹2.55 crore–₹4.78 crore on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹2.11 crore–₹3.82 crore (Delhi, 3 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.

Porsche's claimed figures: 3.0L twin-turbo flat-six (Carrera) — ~9-11 kmpl (ARAI, third-party aggregator figures that vary by source — Porsche India does not publish a mileage figure on its own site). Real-world figures depend on traffic, load and driving style.

The top variant is the 911 Turbo S (Petrol, 8-speed PDK automatic, AWD) at ₹3.82 crore ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the 911 Carrera (Petrol, 8-speed PDK automatic, RWD) at ₹2.11 crore. 4 variants in all, as of 3 Nov 2026.
