Sorento Waiting Period
Typical across India: New launch (bookings opened 3 August 2026, deliveries began from launch in September 2026); CarDekho reported vehicles already arriving at dealerships with deliveries starting the same month. (as of 7 Sept 2026)
No city-wide backlog has been reported yet for this freshly-launched model; Kia was running benefits of up to ₹40,000 on the Sorento in October 2026, consistent with ready availability rather than a long queue.

The Auto Grid Review
Kia Sorento Review: Our Verdict
The Sorento only reached Kondapur dealerships in September 2026, so we've had very few through our bay so far, but the pattern from Kia's other premium import (the Carnival) suggests owners at this price will want full-body protection rather than a partial job. The long bonnet and the 3-cube headlamp surrounds are the panels that will take the first stone-chip damage on highway trips, and the smart power tailgate needs careful handling during any wrap or film work around its sensors. It's too early for us to speak to long-term paint behaviour on this generation in Indian conditions.
What we like
- +Most fuel-efficient large 3-row SUV in its segment — 19.60 kmpl ARAI on the hybrid 2WD, ahead of the Kodiaq, Meridian and Fortuner
- +Choice of diesel or strong-hybrid, each in 2WD or AWD, with 6- or 7-seat layouts
- +ADAS Level 2 with 21 features and a 26-point standard safety pack
- +Genuinely premium cabin — massage-adjacent comfort features, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate
What we’d change
- –Not yet independently crash-tested by Bharat NCAP as of this run
- –Kia's premium models (Carnival, EV6, EV9) have all struggled for volume in India, raising resale and parts-availability questions long-term
- –Diesel AWD's 15.79 kmpl ARAI figure is the weakest in the range
- –Priced into direct competition with established players like the Fortuner and Kodiaq
Is the Sorento right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
It's a genuinely large SUV — more highway and weekend tool than a daily Kondapur commuter car.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The hybrid 2WD's 19.60 kmpl ARAI figure and a refined, quiet cabin make it a strong long-distance highway SUV.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
A 26-point safety pack, up to 10 airbags on the top trim and genuinely spacious 6/7-seat layouts suit a large family well, pending an independent crash-test score.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The hybrid's combined output and AWD give it decent pace for its size, but this is a comfort-focused SUV, not a driver's car.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At ₹28 lakh and up, both its price and its large three-row footprint rule this out entirely as anyone's first car.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
A quiet, well-equipped cabin and strong rear-seat comfort make the HTX(A) trim work well for chauffeur-driven use.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
AWD with Snow/Sand/Mud terrain modes on the top trim gives it genuine capability for weekend trips beyond tarmac.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Kia Sorento: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The long bonnet and 3-cube headlamp surrounds will take the first stone-chip damage on highway trips, and the smart power tailgate's sensors need careful handling during any film or wrap installation around the rear.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front film as the baseline, with AG1 Square full body recommended for buyers at this price point who want complete coverage from day one.
Coverage
Full front standard; full-body upgrade recommended given the car's price and import status.

FAQs
Kia Sorento: Questions Buyers Ask
Kia launched the Sorento at ₹27.99 lakh ex-showroom in September 2026; Autocar India reported the range running up to ₹40.39 lakh for the top AWD hybrid trim as of October 2026.
ARAI figures published in October 2026 show the hybrid at 19.60 kmpl (2WD) and 17.70 kmpl (AWD), and the diesel at 17.66 kmpl (2WD) and 15.79 kmpl (AWD) — Kia markets the hybrid 2WD figure as the most fuel-efficient in its segment.
Not as of this run — the Sorento launched in India only in September 2026 and has not yet appeared in Bharat NCAP's published results. It carries 7 standard airbags (10 on the top AWD trim) and ADAS Level 2 on the HTX(A) trim.
Both — Kia offers a 2.2-litre diesel with an 8-speed DCT and a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid with a 6-speed automatic, each available in 2WD or AWD.
The Fortuner has decades of diesel reliability, a huge service network and strong resale; the Sorento counters with a markedly more efficient hybrid option (19.60 kmpl ARAI vs the Fortuner's diesel figures in the mid-14s) and a more premium cabin. Choose the Fortuner for proven long-term ownership, the Sorento for efficiency and features.
The Kodiaq's turbo-petrol DSG is quick and German-engineered; the Sorento's hybrid option is considerably more fuel-efficient (19.60 kmpl vs the Kodiaq's 14.86 kmpl ARAI) and offers a diesel alternative the Kodiaq doesn't.
The hybrid's class-leading efficiency and a genuinely premium cabin make a strong case on paper, but it's a brand-new model for India (launched September 2026) without an independent crash-test score yet, and Kia's other premium imports have struggled for sales volume and resale here — weigh that against the Fortuner's longer track record.
The long bonnet and headlamp surrounds will take the most highway stone-chip damage, so we recommend at least a full-front AG1 film, with full-body coverage for owners who want the whole car protected from day one. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for details.
Indicatively ₹33.79 lakh–₹50.15 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹27.99 lakh–₹40.39 lakh (Delhi, 29 Oct 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–20%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
The top variant is the HTX (A) (Petrol-Hybrid, 6-speed AT) at ₹38.49 lakh ex-showroom Delhi; the base model is the HTE (Diesel, 8-speed DCT) at ₹27.99 lakh. 6 variants in all, as of 29 Oct 2026.
Sorento: Premium 3-row SUV, ₹27.99 lakh – ₹40.39 lakh ex-showroom, Diesel/Petrol-Hybrid, Auto Grid rating 4.0/5.
