The Auto Grid Review
Jeep Meridian Review: Our Verdict
Few Meridians come through the Kondapur bay compared to its Tata or Toyota-badged rivals, but the ones we see are almost always 7-seat family cars bought for long trips, not city runners. The sliding second-row seats introduced in the 2026 update are a genuine talking point, but the mechanism and its door sills take more scuffing during loading than a fixed bench. Shared underpinnings with the Compass mean the same front bumper and grille vulnerabilities apply, just on a larger, heavier body that puts more load through the front splitter on speed breakers. Paint quality is consistent with the Compass and films cleanly.
What we like
- +Genuine 7-seat practicality with a 50:50 fold-flat third row
- +New sliding second-row seats add real flexibility for families
- +170 PS/350 Nm diesel with a proper 9-speed torque-converter automatic
- +6 airbags standard across the entire range
What we’d change
- –No Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP result published for the India-spec car
- –No official ground clearance figure published
- –16.25 km/l ARAI mileage is published only for the 9-speed automatic, not the manual
- –Jeep's dealer and parts network is thinner than Toyota's or Tata's for this segment
Is the Meridian right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
A full-size 7-seater isn't built for tight city driving — the Compass or a smaller SUV suits daily commuting better.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
350 Nm of diesel torque, a genuine 9-speed automatic and 4x4 on top trims make this a strong long-distance family highway cruiser.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
6 airbags, a genuine 7-seat layout with sliding second-row seats and a 50:50 fold-flat third row make this one of the more practical family SUVs in its class, crash-test publication aside.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
This is a comfort- and practicality-focused full-size SUV, not a car built for driver engagement.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Size, price and a thin Jeep service network rule this out as a sensible first car for most buyers.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Dual-zone climate control and ventilated seats on the Overland trim work for executive duty, though the Limited(O) and below feel less plush.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
The Overland 4x4 AT with Hill Descent Control is a genuinely capable weekend-trail family SUV, even without a published ground clearance figure.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Jeep Meridian: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
It shares the Compass's grille and front-bumper vulnerability to stone chips, but on a larger, heavier body that loads the front splitter harder on speed breakers; the sliding second-row mechanism and door sills pick up scuffs from the extra loading these family owners do.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with lower-door and sill strips for every Meridian, given its long-distance family-trip use profile; a sill-guard film for the sliding second-row door track reduces scuffing from repeated loading.
Coverage
Full front standard; add door-sill strips at the sliding second-row and rear-wheel-arch guards for 4x4 AT owners.

FAQs
Jeep Meridian: Questions Buyers Ask
Jeep's India lineup overview lists the Meridian from ₹23.33 lakh to ₹37.92 lakh ex-showroom (Autocar India, last updated 26 October 2026), anchored by Stellantis's own January and July 2026 press releases for the Longitude and Overland/85th Anniversary trims.
Yes on the Longitude Plus trim and above, with a 50:50 fold-flat third row; the base Longitude is a 5-seat configuration. A January 2026 update added sliding second-row seats on the Limited(O) and Overland trims.
Jeep and Autocar India publish an ARAI-certified 16.25 km/l for the 9-speed automatic diesel; no separate figure has been published for the 6-speed manual variants.
No Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP result has been published for the India-spec Meridian as of October 2026, despite Jeep's claim of '70+ active and passive safety systems.' 6 airbags and ESC are standard regardless.
The Fortuner has a longer safety and reliability track record in India and a wider service network; the Meridian counters with sliding second-row seats, a more modern cabin and a slightly lower entry price for a comparable diesel-automatic 7-seat SUV.
The Innova Hycross offers a strong-hybrid petrol option and Toyota's wider service reach; the Meridian is diesel-only but adds genuine 4x4 on top trims and a more SUV-like driving position, for buyers who want off-road ability over hybrid running costs.
Only the range-topping variant gets adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert; lower trims do without a dedicated ADAS suite, per Autocar India's variant comparison.
It shares the Compass's grille and bumper vulnerability on a heavier body, so a full-front AG1 film is our standard recommendation, with extra attention to the sliding second-row door sills. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan by trim.
Indicatively ₹28.17 lakh–₹47.08 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹23.33 lakh–₹37.92 lakh (Delhi, 29 Oct 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–20%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
