The Auto Grid Review

Audi RS Q8 Review: Our Verdict

4.3/ 5 · Auto Grid Editorial

The RS Q8 Performance is the most expensive car that regularly comes through our Kondapur bay, and the owners who buy a ₹2.3 crore-plus CBU-import SUV are exactly the ones who ask for the best film we stock before the first service. The 23-inch wheels and flared arches mean kerb rash on the rear quarter panel is the single most common repair we do on this car; the honeycomb RS Singleframe grille and the matte-black mirror caps chip easily on ORR expansion joints because the panel gaps around them are tighter than on the standard Q8. Because it shares its body-in-white with the regular Q8, the paint quality itself is typical Audi — hard and consistent — but the sheer width of this car, over two metres with mirrors unfolded, means it collects door-edge dings in Hyderabad's narrow mall parking faster than any other Audi we see.

What we like

  • +640 PS twin-turbo V8 with proper Audi Sport chassis tuning — genuinely the fastest SUV we've driven
  • +Shares the Lamborghini Urus's running gear for roughly two crore less
  • +Adaptive air suspension and 48V roll control keep it composed despite its size
  • +Full-fat standard kit — no stripped trims to choose between

What we’d change

  • –₹2.33 crore-plus ex-showroom puts it beyond all but a handful of Indian buyers
  • –First India batch sold out within days, so allocation can run months behind headline waiting-period numbers
  • –Claimed mileage of around 9 kmpl means fuel bills alone deter most owners from daily use
  • –No Bharat NCAP test as a CBU import — only Euro NCAP data applies to the shared platform

Is the RS Q8 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored

Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.

City Commuter

10–30 km a day through traffic

A 5-metre, two-tonne-plus V8 SUV with a 305km/h top speed is wasted in Hyderabad traffic; parking it in a mall basement is the hardest part of owning one day-to-day.

Highway Cruiser

ORR laps and expressway weekends

Adaptive air suspension and 850Nm of torque make this one of the most composed, fastest-overtaking cruisers on the ORR or the Hyderabad-Bengaluru expressway, with a surprisingly civil ride for the power on offer.

Family First

Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips

Five real seats, a 605-litre boot and the same safety kit as the regular Q8 make it family-usable, but the running costs and insurance premiums on a V8 this powerful rule out most family budgets.

Driving Enthusiast

Cares how it steers, not just how it looks

640 PS, a sport differential, all-wheel steering and the V8 soundtrack make this the most engaging big Audi money can buy in India, with genuine Nurburgring-honed chassis tuning behind the luxury badge.

First-Car Buyer

Budget-conscious and resale-aware

At well over two crore ex-showroom, this is about as far from a sensible first car as it gets, and the running costs alone would eat most first-time buyers' annual income.

Chauffeur-Driven Executive

Judged from the rear seat

The cabin matches any flagship sedan for comfort and tech, but the sportier roofline and firmer RS seats trade a little rear-seat space and plushness for the performance image, a fair swap for most RS Q8 owners.

Weekend Explorer

Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads

Quattro AWD and air suspension with raised ride height help on a smooth ghat road, but low-profile 23-inch tyres and a six-figure-dollar price tag make this the wrong car to risk on anything rougher.

Paint Protection

PPF for the Audi RS Q8: What We Install and Why

Where it takes damage

The flared rear wheel arches and 23-inch wheels take the brunt of kerb rash in tight parking, the honeycomb RS Singleframe grille and matte mirror caps chip on ORR expansion joints due to tight panel gaps, and the car's sheer width picks up door-edge dings in narrow mall basements faster than any other Audi we see.

Our recommendation

Full-body AG1 Square is what most RS Q8 owners choose given what they've paid for the car; for those who want the minimum, AG1 full-front plus the rear wheel arches and door edges covers the panels we repair most.

Coverage

Full front, rear wheel arches, door edges and mirror caps as standard; full body for owners protecting resale value on a car this expensive.
