The Auto Grid Review
Kia EV9 Review: Our Verdict
The EV9 is the single most expensive car we protect at Auto Grid, and we've handled only a handful since its 2024 India launch. Every one has gone through as a full-body AG1 Square job — at ₹1.3 crore ex-showroom, nobody is choosing a partial film. The long, flat doors and the big glass area actually make it a straightforward car to work on once it's up on the lift; the digital pattern grille and the captain-seat door sills are the areas that need the most care during installation, since any misalignment is obvious on a car this size and this clean.
What we like
- +Genuinely flagship specification — dual sunroof, massage captain seats, Trinity display
- +561 km ARAI range and strong 384 PS/700 Nm AWD performance
- +The global-spec EV9 scored a 5-star Euro NCAP rating (December 2023)
- +ADAS Level 2 with 27 features as standard
What we’d change
- –Among the costliest SUVs sold in India, electric or otherwise, at around ₹1.3 crore ex-showroom
- –Extremely low sales volumes — essentially a halo model with little resale data
- –India gets only the 6-seater captain-seat layout, with no 7- or 8-seat option
- –Kia's EV charging and service network is still thin for a car this large
Is the EV9 right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Its sheer size makes it an unwieldy daily driver in Kondapur's narrower streets, however relaxed the drivetrain feels.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
A long-legged, quiet and genuinely quick AWD cruiser with strong range for highway trips between Hyderabad and the coast.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Captain seats, a 5-star global crash rating and flagship safety tech make this one of the safest and most comfortable large family EVs anywhere in India.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
384 PS and 700 Nm move a nearly 2.7-tonne SUV with authority, but this is a comfort-and-space statement, not a driver's car.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
At roughly ₹1.3 crore ex-showroom, price and scale put this flagship SUV far outside any realistic first-car conversation.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Captain seats with massage function and a genuinely quiet cabin make this one of the best chauffeur-driven EVs sold in India.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
AWD traction is useful in the wet, but it's built for comfort on tarmac, not for weekend off-roading.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Kia EV9: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The digital pattern grille and the captain-seat door sills are the areas that need the most careful masking during installation, given how visible any misalignment is on a car this large and this clean.
Our recommendation
AG1 Square full body as the only sensible recommendation at this price point.
Coverage
Full body standard for every EV9 we take in.
Kia EV9 vs EV6

FAQs
Kia EV9: Questions Buyers Ask
The EV9 is sold as a single GT-Line 6-seater trim at an official ex-showroom price of ₹1,29,91,312 (Kia India), roughly ₹1.30 crore, as of 29 October 2026.
Kia's own specification page lists a 99.8 kWh battery with a claimed 561 km range on the ARAI MIDC-Full cycle.
The globally-sold EV9 scored a 5-star Euro NCAP rating in December 2023, and the India-spec car carries the same ADAS Level 2 suite and structure; it has not been separately tested by Bharat NCAP as of this run.
The India-spec EV9 is sold exclusively as a 6-seater with second-row captain seats — no 7- or 8-seat configuration is offered here.
They sell to different buyers more than they compete head-to-head: the EV9 is a quiet, tech-forward electric flagship with captain seats, while the Defender is a diesel/petrol off-roader with genuine all-terrain ability. Choose the EV9 for an electric, chauffeur-friendly daily flagship; choose the Defender if off-road capability matters.
For buyers who specifically want a flagship electric SUV with captain seats and a 5-star global crash rating, yes — but at roughly ₹1.3 crore it competes with established luxury EVs that have stronger dealer and charging networks in India, and EV9 sales volumes here have been very low.
The digital pattern grille and the captain-seat door sills need the most careful masking on this car, and at this price point a full-body AG1 Square film is the only package we recommend. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for details.
Indicatively ₹1.33 crore–₹1.35 crore on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹1.30 crore (Delhi, 29 Oct 2026) plus Telangana life tax (0% (EV exemption)), first-year insurance and registration. EVs pay no road tax or registration fee in Telangana until 31 December 2026. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
EV9: Flagship electric SUV, ₹1.30 crore ex-showroom, Electric, Auto Grid rating 4.4/5. EV6: Premium electric SUV, ₹65.98 lakh ex-showroom, Electric, rated 4.3/5. See the Kia EV6 page for its full variant list and our verdict.
