The Auto Grid Review
Renault Triber Review: Our Verdict
The Triber is a regular in our Kondapur bay — large joint families buying their first proper people-mover, almost always on the Techno or Emotion trim. Its tall, flat doors and simple surfacing make it one of the easier MPVs to film, but the bonnet and the SUV-styled skid plate pick up chips fast on ORR ramps because the car sits so upright and the front overhang is short. Ice Cool White and Moonlight Silver cars show dealer-delivery swirl under our lamps more than the Amber Terracotta top trim, whose richer tone hides minor marks better. Owners who load all three rows for a weekend trip to Srisailam are exactly the customers who come back asking about rear-door and bumper protection once the paint starts showing stone chips from fully-loaded highway runs.
What we like
- +Only sub-4m 7-seater in India — genuinely more practical than most hatchbacks its size
- +625 L boot in 5-seat mode is class-leading for the price
- +New TCe 100 turbo-petrol finally gives it real highway legs
- +Modular 100+ seating configurations with removable 3rd row
What we’d change
- –Base 72 PS engine feels strained fully loaded or on inclines
- –Interior plastics and NVH insulation are a known weak point (owner reports of rattles and road noise)
- –4-star Global NCAP adult rating is from a 2021 base-spec test, not the current facelift
- –Boot space drops sharply once the 3rd row is in use
Is the Triber right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
Light controls and a tight turning circle make it easy around Hyderabad, though the base engine feels laboured pulling away from signals with a full load.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The TCe 100 turbo is a genuine improvement on the ORR and Vijayawada highway runs; the older 72 PS Energy engine is noticeably more strained at expressway speed.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
This is the Triber's reason to exist — three usable rows, ISOFIX anchors and a 625 L boot make it one of the most practical family cars under ₹9 lakh.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
A tall, light MPV tuned purely for comfort and space; there's no driving engagement on offer here.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Cheap to run, easy to drive and unmatched for carrying a joint family, though a first-time single buyer is paying for seats they may rarely use.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Middle-row comfort is good for an MPV this size, but the cabin finish and refinement are a step below anything badge-conscious executives expect.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
182 mm clearance and a roomy boot suit weekend trips with the family, but road-biased tyres and modest power limit it to tarmac and light gravel.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Renault Triber: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The upright nose and short front overhang put the bumper and skid plate directly in the stone-chip line on ORR ramps; Ice Cool White and Moonlight Silver show dealer-prep swirl fastest, and the rear bumper corners scuff in tight multi-row parking at malls and schools.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front is our standard Triber package given how many are used for daily school runs and highway family trips; we add rear-bumper and sill protection for buyers who regularly load all three rows for outstation travel.
Coverage
Full front standard; add rear bumper and door sills for families doing frequent highway runs with a full load.

FAQs
Renault Triber: Questions Buyers Ask
Renault prices the Triber from ₹5,80,875 (Authentic 1.0 Energy MT) to ₹8,99,900 (Emotion TCe 100 turbo-petrol MT) ex-showroom, all-India, per Renault's own price configurator checked on 1 November 2026.
CarDekho's 15 September 2026 survey put Hyderabad at 1–4 weeks across the Triber range; the newer TCe 100 turbo variants (launched 28 September 2026) may run slightly tighter until supply stabilises.
Yes, with caveats — it is the only sub-4-metre 7-seater sold in India, with ISOFIX anchors, 6 airbags on current cars and a class-leading 625 L boot in 5-seat mode, but the 3rd row suits children and short trips better than three adults for long distances.
No. The Triber does not carry ADAS. Its only crash-test result is a 2021 Global NCAP test of the base two-airbag specification — 4 stars for adult occupants, 3 stars for child occupants — and it has not been separately re-tested by Bharat NCAP as of this writing.
Owners most often report dashboard and suspension rattles developing after a few thousand kilometres, weak rear-AC cooling with a full cabin, and a laboured 72 PS engine under load — issues documented across owner forums and long-term press reviews rather than one-off defects.
The Gravite is a badge-engineered Triber sold through Nissan's dealer network on the same platform and 72 PS engine; the choice usually comes down to dealer proximity, trim-specific feature tweaks and whichever brand is running the better offer that month.
The Triber is the more affordable, more compact option that still seats seven within a sub-4-metre footprint; the Ertiga is bigger, more powerful and more comfortable for adults in the third row, but costs noticeably more and loses the Triber's small-car parking ease.
Choose the Triber if you regularly need a usable third row of seats; choose the Kiger if you want SUV styling, a turbo-petrol option and a CVT, and rarely carry more than five people — both share the same base engine and roughly the same starting price.
Worth buying if you specifically need a sub-4-metre 7-seater — nothing else matches its combination of size and seating — but go in expecting a strained base engine under load, cabin rattles reported by owners over time, and a crash-test result that predates the current 6-airbag facelift.
The Emotion TCe 100 turbo-petrol MT is the top model, at ₹8,99,900 ex-showroom, with auto headlamps, cruise control, auto AC and rain-sensing wipers. For most buyers the Techno trim is the better value — it keeps the touchscreen, rear AC vents and roof rails without the Emotion trim's full premium.
Indicatively ₹6.83 lakh–₹10.68 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹5.81 lakh–₹9.00 lakh (Delhi, 1 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (14%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
Renault's claimed figures: 1.0L Energy petrol — 19.76 kmpl MT / 19.59 kmpl AMT (ARAI); TCe 100 turbo-petrol — 21 kmpl (ARAI-certified, Renault India launch press release). Real-world figures depend on traffic, load and driving style.
Ground clearance 182 mm, boot space 625 litres, 7 seats, length 3990 mm (Renault official specification).
